THE DAYS OF LIFE

I've been disappointed often,
I've been weary and dismayed,
And I've been brokenhearted,
When my prayers have been delayed.

I've been sad and I've been lonesome,
And I've been discouraged too,
I've been known to shout with victory,
When I knew my prayers went through.

I've been glad and I've been sorry,
I've been brave and I've been weak,
I've been so full of sorrow,
That I couldn't even speak.

I've been sick and I've been angry,
And I've failed in what I'd do,
I've been poor and tired and trembling,
But I've been so thankful too.

I've been tried and I've been tempted,
And I've been victorious too,
I've been loved and been neglected,
I've been hurt and so have you.

I know a man when things went wrong,
Never failed to sing a song,
He'd say a prayer and knew God was there,
And waited for another dawn.

I've been helped and I've been cheated,
And I have laughed and I have cried,
But I'll never be defeated,
While the Lord is at my side.
