Revelation 15

KING JAMES BIBLE

1 AND I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.
2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.
4 Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.
5 And after that I looked, and, behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened:
6 And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their breasts girded with golden girdles.
7 And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever.
8 And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.

THE NEW AMERICAN BIBLE

1 Then I saw in heaven another sign, great and awe-inspiring: seven angels with the seven last plagues, for through them God's fury is accomplished. 2 Then I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire. On the sea of glass were standing those who had won the victory over the beast and its image and the number that signified its name. They were holding God's harps, 3 and they sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb: "Great and wonderful are your works, Lord God almighty. Just and true are your ways, O king of the nations. 4 Who will not fear you, Lord, or glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All the nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed." 5 After this I had another vision. The temple that is the heavenly tent of testimony opened, 6 and the seven angels with the seven plagues came out of the temple. They were dressed in clean white linen, with a gold sash around their chests. 7 One of the four living creatures gave the seven angels seven gold bowls filled with the fury of God, who lives forever and ever. 8 Then the temple became so filled with the smoke from God's glory and might that no one could enter it until the seven plagues of the seven angels had been accomplished.

COMMENTARIE

Last  Call  For  Unsaved ??

v 1. This verse is a preview of what is detailed in verses 6-8. The seal and trumpet judgments were basically in the first half of tribulation, the vial or bowl judgments in the last half. The seventh trumpet calls forth the seven bowls. Chapters 11-14 are parenthetical chapters looking both backward and forward. Chapter 15 is partly parenthetical but sets the stage for chronological plagues of 16. The first sign in Revelation was the great woman, the second the great dragon, 12:1,3, and the third is a scene in the sky prelude to the great drama to take place on earth. It reveals seven last plagues, not restating of former plagues. With the completion of these seven last plagues, God’s wrath is filled up or finished.
As the seven churches were representative of all churches, these seven angels may be representative of all angels in what is done.
v 2. Verses 2-5 are an interlude of invitation for others to be saved and victorious. The sea in 4:6 was clear crystal, but this one has the red of fire or judgment.  This sea of glass compares to the bronze laver of Ex. 30 for purifying of the priests. It was made of the women’s brass mirrors by which they had been able to examine themselves. These people, who have gone through a fire of affliction, can examine themselves and see that God has purified them and given them the victory. Satan thought he was victorious when he killed those who would not take his mark, but actually, they had gotten victory over him.
v 3. Some say that this sea is the troubled mass of humanity from which the beast arose, and they were delivered from that sea as surely as the Israelites were delivered from the Red Sea. At any rate, they were even given harps as they sing Moses victory song and it’s sequel in the song of the Lamb. The song of the Lamb recognizes Him as the King of saints and His ways are perfect. They were victorious, though by death. Also deliverance for those at the flood, even the waters of baptism as token of deliverance from sin. They realize that no matter how unfair it may have seemed on earth, God’s ways were just and true after all. (Some ancient manuscripts translate king of saints as nations or ages.)
v 4. This stanza recognizes the greatness of God and His judgments. The holiness of the Lord is borne out in Phil. 2:9-11, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord.
v 5. Again, as in 11:19, the temple in heaven is open, revealing the ark and the mercy seat of God. The ark had been removed from the earthly temple at the time of Nebuchadnezzar, and the presence of God may never have returned there. Christ still considered it the Father’s house of prayer, Mt. 21:13. Much more, the heavenly temple is open so anyone can have access to God and see the majesty of his holiness. Even at this late date, He is giving one last call to repent. This is just as definite as an auctioneer calling “going, going, gone”.
v 6. The last call was given and the seven angels now assemble in clothing of  righteousness and total purity to carry out God’s orders. The golden belts indicate riches and beauty.
v 7. It is too late for repentance on earth. A living creature had given trumpets to seven angels. Now another gives a vial filled with the wrath of God to each of these seven angels, and they are poised to pour them out. These vials are broad shallow bowls or deep saucers, perhaps huge censers, which can be dumped suddenly and in rapid succession. They will not be judgments from man or from Satan’s limited powers, but are more intense an devastating, coming directly from God.
v 8. God revealed His holiness at the giving of the law with Mount Sinai in thick smoke, Ex. 19:18. When the ark was placed in the Holy of Holies a cloud covered the tent, Ex. 40:34,35. When Solomon dedicated the temple the priests could not minister there because the cloud of the glory of the Lord was in it, 1 Kings 8:10,11. Now, none can enter the heavenly tabernacle, because God’s holiness is being displayed. It is not  sweet incense filling the temple now, but the smoke of the Shekinah glory, as the Lord is about to purge the earth. These judgments are not just of vengeance, but to vindicate God’s holiness. His love has been mocked, His merciful reproof has been neglected, and His long suffering has been ignored, so judgment comes. Men learn the same lesson as in Noah’s day, when God said His Spirit would not always strive with man, Gen. 6:3.
