1 NOW gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.
2 But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
3 Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.
4 And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.
5 And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.
6 And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.
7 And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the Lord, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.
8 And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.
9 Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off.
10 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots:
11 And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:
12 And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:
13 Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands.
14 And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities.
15 And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.
1Now gather thy selfe in troupes, O daughter of troupes: he hath laid siege against vs: they shal smite the Iudge of Israel with a rod vpon the cheeke.
2But thou Beth-leem Ephratah, though thou bee little among the thousands of Iudah, yet out of thee shall he come foorth vnto mee, that is to be ruler in Israel: whose goings foorth haue bene from of old, from euerlasting.
3Therefore will hee giue them vp, vntill the time that shee which trauaileth, hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall returne vnto the children of Israel.
4 And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the Maiestie of the Name of the Lord his God, and they shall abide: for now shall he be great vnto the ends of the earth.
5And this man shall bee the peace when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when hee shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seuen Shepheards, and eight principall men.
6And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall hee deliuer vs from the Assyrian, when he commeth into our land, and when hee treadeth within our borders.
7And the remnant of Iacob shall be in the midst of many people, as a dew from the Lord, as the showres vpon the grasse that tarieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sonnes of men.
8 And the remnant of Iacob shal be among the Gentiles in the middest of many people, as a Lyon among the beasts of the forrest, as a yong Lyon among the flockes of sheepe: who if he goe through, both treadeth downe, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliuer.
9Thine hand shall be lift vp vpon thine aduersaries, and all thine enemies shalbe cut off.
10And it shall come to passe in that day, sayth the Lord, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy charets.

12And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand, and thou shalt haue no more Southsayers.
13Thy grauen images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee: & thou shalt no more worship the worke of thine hands.
14And I will plucke vp thy groues out of the middest of thee: so will I destroy thy cities.
15And I will execute vengeance in anger, and furie vpon the heathen, such as they haue not heard.

. 1 But you, Bethlehem-Ephrathah too small to be among the clans of Judah, From you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel; Whose origin is from of old, from ancient times.
2 (Therefore the Lord will give them up, until the time when she who is to give birth has borne, And the rest of his brethren shall return to the children of Israel.)
3 He shall stand firm and shepherd his flock by the strength of the LORD, in the majestic name of the LORD, his God; And they shall remain, for now his greatness shall reach to the ends of the earth;
4 he shall be peace. If Assyria invades our country and treads upon our land, We shall raise against it seven shepherds, eight men of royal rank;
5 And they shall tend the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod with the drawn sword; And we shall be delivered from Assyria, if it invades our land and treads upon our borders.
6 The remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many peoples, Like dew coming from the LORD, like raindrops on the grass, Which wait for no man, nor tarry for the sons of men.
7 And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, Like a lion among beasts of the forest, like a young lion among flocks of sheep; When it passes through, it tramples and tears, and there is none to deliver.
8 Your hand shall be lifted above your foes, and all your enemies shall be destroyed.
9 On that day, says the LORD, I will destroy the horses from your midst and ruin your chariots;
10 I will demolish the cities of your land and tear down all your fortresses.
11 I will abolish the means of divination from your use, and there shall no longer be soothsayers among you.
12 I will abolish your carved images and the sacred pillars from your midst; And you shall no longer adore the works of your hands.
13 I will tear out the sacred poles from your midst, and destroy your cities.
14 I will wreak vengeance in anger and wrath upon the nations that have not hearkened
v 1. Micah calls powerful Jerusalem to rally troops against Nebuchadnezzar, though it will be useless, and the king, Zedekiah will be humiliated.
v 2. In contrast, an insignificant town, Bethlehem, will be the birth place of the Messiah. Though He comes from there, He has been from everlasting. He took part in creation of all things and appeared, theophanies, various times in the Old Testament.
This specific Bethlehem is about five miles south of Jerusalem and was called Ephrath, Gen. 35:16-19 and 48:7. It was the birth place of David, the place where Rachel died, the place the sacrificial lambs were pastured, and thus, where angels appeared to Shepherds announcing the birth of Christ the coming King.
v 3. This verse jumps to the second advent of Christ when He returns to Israel.
v 4. Christ will be a true Shepherd of Israel and will rule the entire world.
v 5,6. Nimrod established Ninevah in Assyria, Gen. 10:8-12. In the immediate this referred to Hezekiah being attacked by Sennacherib, but Assyria is used as typical of all the nations which Christ will destroy, then rule over in the Millennium.
v 7. In that day, the remnant of Israel will refresh the nations like a rain or dew.
v 8. Then Israel will be the dominant nation and place her trust in the Lord.
Promises: v 8, Care and protection; v 6, Destroy their enemies; v 7, The remnant to be a blessing to others; v 8 In that day Israel will dominate others.
v 9-15. God will remove from them: 1,horses in which they trusted; 2, strongholds; 3, witch crafts and all types of the occult; 4, the idols; 5, Ashera poles of false worship; 6, even destroying those cities, and 7; execute justice on all nations that oppose Him.
