Upon the death of Herod Jesus was a young child (Matthew 2:19-20) This fixes Jesus in the Roman Calendar. Later the Christian Calender replace the Roman Calender. Jesus was about 30 years old in the 15th year of Tiberius, Caesar (Luke 3:1 , 23)
Most of the time Passovers were in April (John 2:13) and shorty after Jesus' baptism he visited Jerusalem at the Passover time.
In the Fall or early winter of A.D. 26 was about the date for Jesus' baptism in the Lower Jordan. Jesus temptation was immediately after his baptism (Mark 1:2-13 Matthew 4:1-11) Jesus re-appeared at the Jordan after the temptation where John (John 1:26) was preaching and was there (John 1:29, 35, 43 ) for three successive "morrows" (1. the next day, 2. the period following a specified event, 3. the morning)
The fall or early winter A.D. 26 Jesus arrived in Cana (John 2:1) where he turned the water into wine and on the third day thereafter. (from that time on or after that time:) Passover in A.D. 27 Before going to Jerusalem to "Cleanse the Temple" (John 2:12 3:22-36) Jesus went to Capernaum for "not many days" Jesus ministry was about a total of 3 1/2 years.

1The beginning of the Gospel of Iesus Christ, the Sonne of God, 2As it is written in the Prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. 3The voice of one crying in the wildernesse, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 4Iohn did baptize in the wildernesse, and preach the baptisme of repentance, for the remission of sinnes. 5And there went out vnto him all the land of Iudea, and they of Ierusalem, and were all baptized of him in the riuer of Iordane, cōfessing their sinnes. 6And Iohn was clothed with camels haire, and with a girdle of a skin about his loines: and he did eat locusts and wilde honie, 7And preached, saying, There commeth one mightier then I after me, the latchet of whose shooes I am not worthy to stoupe downe, and vnloose. 8I indeed haue baptized you with water: but hee shall baptize you with the holy Ghost. 9And it came to passe in those daies, that Iesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of Iohn in Iordane. 10And straightway comming vp out of the water, hee saw the heauens opened, and the Spirit like a doue descending vpon him. 11And there came a voice from heauen, saying, Thou art my beloued Sonne, in whom I am well pleased. 12And immediately the Spirit driueth him into the wildernesse. 13And he was there in the wildernesse fourtie daies tempted of Satan, and was with the wildbeasts, and the Angels ministred vnto him. 14Now after that Iohn was put in prison, Iesus came into Galilee, preaching the Gospell of the kingdome of God, 15And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdome of God is at hand: repent ye, and beleeue the Gospell. 16Now as he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the Sea (for they were fishers.) 17And Iesus said vnto them, Come ye after me; and I will make you to become fishers of men. 18And straightway they forsooke their nets, and followed him. 19And when hee had gone a little further thence, hee saw Iames the sonne of Zebedee, and Iohn his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets. 20And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired seruants, and went after him. 21And they went into Capernaum, and straightway on the Sabbath day he entred into the Synagogue, and taught. 22And they were astonished at his doctrine: for hee taught them as one that had authority, and not as the Scribes. 23And there was in their Synagogue a man with an vncleane spirit, and he cried out, 24Saying, Let vs alone, what haue we to doe with thee, thou Iesus of Nazareth? Art thou come to destroy vs? I know thee who thou art, the holy One of God. 25And Iesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. 26And when the vncleane spirit had torne him, and cried with a lowd voice, he came out of him. 27And they were all amased, insomuch that they questioned among themselues, saying, What thing is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authoritie commandeth he euen the vncleane spirits, and they doe obey him. 28And immediatly his fame spread abroad throughout al the region round about Galilee. 29And forth with, when they were come out of the Synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon, and Andrew, with Iames and Iohn. 30But Simons wiues mother lay sicke of a feuer: and anone they tell him of her. 31And he came and tooke her by the hand, and lift her vp, and immediately the feuer left her, and she ministred vnto them. 32And at euen, when the Sunne did set, they brought vnto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with diuels: 33And all the citie was gathered together at the doore. 34And he healed many that were sicke of diuers diseases, and cast out many deuils, and suffered not the deuils to speake, because they knew him. 35And in the morning, rising vp a great while before day, hee went out, and departed into a solitarie place, and there prayed. 36And Simon, and they that were with him, followed after him: 37And when they had found him, they said vnto him, All men seek for thee. 38And he said vnto them, Let vs goe into þe next townes, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I foorth. 39And he preached in their Synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out deuils. 40And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling downe to him, and saying vnto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me cleane. 41And Iesus mooued with compassion, put foorth his hand, and touched him, and saith vnto him, I will, be thou cleane. 42And assoone as he had spoken, immediately the leprosie departed from him, and he was cleansed. 43And he straitly charged him, and forth with sent him away, 44And saith vnto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but goe thy way, shew thy selfe to the Priest, and offer for thy clensing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony vnto them. 45But he went out, and beganne to publish it much, and to blase abroad the matter: insomuch that Iesus could no more openly enter into the citie, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from euery quarter.

1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ (the Son of God). 2 As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: "Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way. 3 A voice of one crying out in the desert: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.'" 4 John (the) Baptist appeared in the desert proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 People of the whole Judean countryside and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins. 6 John was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist. He fed on locusts and wild honey. 7 And this is what he proclaimed: "One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals. 8 I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the holy Spirit." 9 It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. 10 On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. 11 And a voice came from the heavens, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased." 12 At once the Spirit drove him out into the desert, 13 and he remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan. He was among wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him. 14 After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: 15 "This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel." 16 As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were fishermen. 17 Jesus said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men." 18 Then they abandoned their nets and followed him. 19 He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets. 20 Then he called them. So they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him. 21 Then they came to Capernaum, and on the sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught. 22 The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. 23 In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit; 24 he cried out, "What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are - the Holy One of God!" 25 Jesus rebuked him and said, "Quiet! Come out of him!" 26 The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out of him. 27 All were amazed and asked one another, "What is this? A new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him." 28 His fame spread everywhere throughout the whole region of Galilee. 29 On leaving the synagogue he entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. 30 Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. 31 He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them. 32 When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. 33 The whole town was gathered at the door. 34 He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him. 35 Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. 36 Simon and those who were with him pursued him 37 and on finding him said, "Everyone is looking for you." 38 He told them, "Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come." 39 So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons throughout the whole of Galilee. 40 A leper came to him (and kneeling down) begged him and said, "If you wish, you can make me clean." 41 Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, "I do will it. Be made clean." 42 The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean. 43 Then, warning him sternly, he dismissed him at once. 44 Then he said to him, "See that you tell no one anything, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them." 45 The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter. He spread the report abroad so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly. He remained outside in deserted places, and people kept coming to him from everywhere. | John Mark is the human author of this book. For some reason he did not continue with Paul and Barnabas on the first missionary journey, so Paul would not take him again. Instead he went with his Uncle Barnabas, and Paul took Silas. Some criticize Paul for this, but he knew his schedule was so busy and difficult that he could not have someone he could not depend on. Years later Paul asked for Mark. It is probably the first of the gospels written, but Matthew provides the best link to the Old Testament and introduction of the King. Mark’s accurate presentation was not as an eye witness, but primarily from discussions with Peter. Early church fathers believed he wrote it in Rome for Gentile Roman Christians, and his explanations bear this out. He wrote of Christ as the servant of the Lord, so records more of Christ’s deeds than words. Some assume the upper room was in the home of Mark, but this lacks proof. Some think he was the youth who fled from the Garden naked, but their basis for this is quite faulty. V 1-13 PREACHING OF JOHN THE BAPTIST: was told in all four of the Gospels. Mark passes over his birth. 1:9-11 Jesus is baptized (Matthew 3:13-17) 1:12-13 Forty days temptation (Matthew 4:1-10) v 1. The “good news” is not about Mark’s book, but about Jesus Christ. Mark does not give a genealogy, which would not be appropriate for Christ the Servant. v 2,3. Mark quotes Isa. 40:3 to introduce John the Baptist preparing for Christ. v 4-11. He sees John the Baptist dressed as a prophet, preaching repentance for the remission of sins, and announcing Christ. See my comments on Matt. 3:1-17. v 12,13. Mark doesn’t give details of temptation. See my comments on Mt. 4:1-11. V 14 to Chapter 10 verse 1 is the GALILEAN MINISTRY. About one half of Mark is occupied by the Galilean Ministry v 14,15. Jesus preaching ministry, (Mt. 4:12-17) Jesus preaching in the lower Jordan (John 3:22-24 4:1-3) with the growing Pharisees' hostility (John 4:1-3) and Herod's imprisonment of John (Matthew 4:12). Between Jesus' being baptizing, His temptation, call of some disciples, first miracle at Cana, then preaching in Galilee covered about a 8 months to a year and are to be place in the events of John 1:19 to 4:54. v 16-20. Jesus called Simon, Andrew, James, and John to become Jess's companion in travel. ( Mt. 4:18-22 and Luke 5:1-11). v 21-28. THE DEMONIAC HEALED: Lk. 4:31-37 tells of Jesus casting demons out of this man, and the crowd being astonished as Jesus spoke with authority. After making Capernaum His headquarter this would be Jesus first recorded miracle. He had healed the Nobleman's son in Capernaum but Jesus was in Cana, about 15 miles distant. Jesus didn't have to be there to heal someone. v 29-31. The restoration of Peter’s wife’s mother also in Mt. 8:14,15; Lk. 4:38,39. V 32-34 MULTITUDES: Told also in Matthew 8:16-17 and Luke 4:40-41 Sunset marked the close of the Sabbath so this was after Sunset. The city of Capernaum had heard about the miracle of Peter's mother-in-law being cured. So they gathered with their sick around the house and Jesus cured them. v 35-37. This adds to Lk. 4:42-44 notes that Jesus sought out this solitary place before daylight in order to pray. This was to keep in solitude with the touch of God. Also that Simon was leading the way to find Him. V 38-39 After about 8 months in his early Judean Ministry he arrived in Galilee, (John 2:13-4:43) Nearly a year before where he had turned water into wine Jesus came to Cana again. Jesus then went to Nazareth, where they rejected him (Luke 4:16-30) after healing the Nobleman's son Jesus established himself in Capernaum (the ruins called TEL-HUM 3 miles southwest from the Jordan entrance into the sea of Balilee is identified with Capernaum) to do his ministry of preaching, teaching, and healing. JOURNEYING ABOUT IN GALILEE: Jesus traveled on foot usually with some of his disciples and with a great multitudes following them around Galilee, and the regions north of Galilee. In Galilee there were many side roads and it was crossed by famous international highways between the Euphrates and the Niles. Jesus made many journeys and returning to Capernaum ( Matthew 4:23-25 9:35-38 Luke 4:44) v 40-45. A LEPER CLEANED: Leprosy was a pitiful and loathsome disease. Jesus told him to show himself to the priest because it was the requirement of the law. (Levities 13 & 14) He told him not to say any thing because of the growing demand for Jesus to become the King. The healing of this man of leprosy is not given in Matt. till 8:2-4 and in Lk. until 5:12-14. This portion adds that the man publicized it so that Jesus had to secretly go to desert places to avoid the huge crowds.
