Job 25
1 THEN answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
2 Dominion and fear are with him, he maketh peace in his high places.
3 Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doth not his light arise?
4 How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?
5 Behold even to the moon, and it shineth not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight.
6 How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?
1Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said:
2Dominion and feare are with him, hee maketh peace in his high places.
3Is there any number of his armies? and vpon whom doeth not his light arise?
4How then can man bee iustified with God? or how can he be cleane that is borne of a woman?
5Behold euen to the moone, and it shineth not, yea the starres are not pure in his sight.
6How much lesse man, that is a worme: and the sonne of man which is a worme?
1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:
2 Dominion and awesomeness are his who brings about harmony in his heavens.
3 Is there any numbering of his troops? Yet to which of them does not his light extend?
4 How can a man be just in God's sight, or how can any woman's child be innocent?
5 Behold, even the moon is not bright and the stars are not clear in his sight.
6 How much less man, who is but a maggot, the son of man, who is only a worm?
v 1-3. Bildad is running out of argument, so he just speaks of the need to fear the dominion of God, perhaps inferring that Job didn’t have proper respect for God.
v 4-6. With no proper answer for Job, he merely repeats the statement made twice by Eliphaz that mortal man can’t be righteous or pure before God. He uses the term worm, or maggot, as a final dig at Job for the maggots in his sores.
This ended the speeches of the three, Zophar being silenced after his second. They had not prayed or shown sympathy for Job, but ignoring his needs, argued and belittled him. They persisted in their assessment of Job’s problems even when the facts proved otherwise, thus recommending inappropriate response, repent of sin.
