1 THEN said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine.
2 So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley:
3 And I said unto her, Thou shalt abide for me many days; thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another man: so will I also be for thee.
4 For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim:
5 Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.
1Then said the Lord vnto me, Goe yet, loue a woman (beloued of her friend, yet an adulteresse) according to the loue of the Lord toward the children of Israel, who looke to other gods, and loue flagons of wine.
2So I bought her to me for fifteene pieces of siluer, and for an homer of barley and an halfe homer of barley.
3And I said vnto her, Thou shalt abide for me many dayes, thou shalt not play the harlot, & thou shalt not be for an other man, so will I also be for thee.
4For the children of Israel shall abide many dayes without a King, and without a Prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an Ephod, and without Teraphim.
5Afterward shall the children of Israel returne, and seeke the Lord their God, and Dauid their King, and shall feare the Lord, and his goodnesse in the latter dayes.

1 Again the LORD said to me: Give your love to a woman beloved of a paramour, an adultress; Even as the LORD loves the people of Israel, though they turn to other gods and are fond of raisin cakes.
2 So I bought her for fifteen pieces of silver and a homer and a lethech of barley.
3 Then I said to her: "Many days you shall wait for me; you shall not play the harlot Or belong to any man; I in turn will wait for you."
4 For the people of Israel shall remain many days without king or prince, Without sacrifice or sacred pillar, without ephod or household idols.
5 Then the people of Israel shall turn back and seek the LORD, their God, and David, their king; They shall come trembling to the LORD and to his bounty, in the last days.
v 1-3. God commands Hosea to take back his adulterous wife and love her as the Lord loves Israel in spite of their spiritual adultery. She may have become the legal property of someone using her in prostitution. The price he paid in grain and silver to buy her back amounted to 30 shekels, the price of a slave. Even so she would be kept separate from other men, and he would not have sexual relationship with her until she had gone through a time of probation.
IN V 2 A Homer: about ten bushels. Lethech: a half-homer.
(Cp. rejected wife with the “Bride of Christ” who cannot be rejected, Jn. 10:28,29; Rom. 8:38,39 but is dealt with by 1 Jn. 1:9. If not face, 1 Cor. 11:30; works 2 Cor. 5:10.)
v 4,5. Israel is in that probation stage right now. For nearly 2000 years she has not had a king of her own and neither pagan or holy altars and sacrifices etc., since the temple was destroyed, 70 AD. She has not become close to God, but she has not been worshiping idols. This final restoration will be in the Millennium.
