JESUS HEALS LEPROSY

1 WHEN he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

HEALING A CENTRUION'S SERVANT
5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

PETER'S MOTHER-IN-LAW IS HEALED
14 And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever.
15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them.
16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

FOLLOWING JESUS
18 Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.
19 And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
21 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

CALMING A STORM
23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.
24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.
26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
27 But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

HEALING THE DEMON-POSSESSED AT GERGESENES
28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
30 And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding.
31 So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.
32 And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.
33 And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils.
34 And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their coasts.

29And behold, they cryed out, saying, What haue we to doe with thee, Iesus thou sonne of God? Art thou come hither to torment vs befor þe time?

30And there was a good way off from them, an heard of many swine, feeding.

31So the deuils besought him, saying, If thou cast vs out, suffer vs to goe away into the herd of swine.

32And he said vnto them, Goe. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and behold, the whole herd of swine ranne violently downe a steepe place into the Sea, and perished in the waters.

33And they that kept them, fled, and went their waies into the citie, and told euery thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the deuils.

34And behold, the whole citie came out to meete Iesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that hee would depart out of their coasts.

And I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come here,' and he comes; and to my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it." 10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, "Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith. 11 I say to you, many will come from the east and the west, and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet in the kingdom of heaven, 12 but the children of the kingdom will be driven out into the outer darkness, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth." 13 And Jesus said to the centurion, "You may go; as you have believed, let it be done for you." And at that very hour (his) servant was healed. 14 Jesus entered the house of Peter, and saw his mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. 15 He touched her hand, the fever left her, and she rose and waited on him. 16 When it was evening, they brought him many who were possessed by demons, and he drove out the spirits by a word and cured all the sick, 17 to fulfill what had been said by Isaiah the prophet: "He took away our infirmities and bore our diseases." 18 When Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side. 19 A scribe approached and said to him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go." 20 Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head." 21 Another of (his) disciples said to him, "Lord, let me go first and bury my father." 22 But Jesus answered him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead." 23 He got into a boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by waves; but he was asleep. 25 They came and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We are perishing!" 26 He said to them, "Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?" Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was great calm. 27 The men were amazed and said, "What sort of man is this, whom even the winds and the sea obey?" 28 When he came to the other side, to the territory of the Gadarenes, two demoniacs who were coming from the tombs met him. They were so savage that no one could travel by that road. 29 They cried out, "What have you to do with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the appointed time?"30 Some distance away a herd of many swine was feeding. 31 The demons pleaded with him, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of swine." 32 And he said to them, "Go then!" They came out and entered the swine, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea where they drowned. 33 The swineherds ran away, and when they came to the town they reported everything, including what had happened to the demoniacs. 34 Thereupon the whole town came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him they begged him to leave their district.

v 1-4. When Jesus came down from His sermon on the Mount a leper begged him for healing and Jesus told him not to tell others. Mark 1:40-45 Adds that the man publicized it so that Jesus had to secretly go to desert places to avoid the crowds. Lk. 5:12-14 doesn’t mention the mount, but jumps directly from the call of the disciples.

MATT 8:23 JESUS CALMS THE STORM AT SEA

In verses 1-15 Jesus showed His power over disease.

indicates this slave was a child or youth. Lk. 7:2 adds, near death. The centurion gave orders which were carried out at a distance, and saying he was unworthy, he suggested Jesus do the same. Jesus said this was the kind of faith by which to enter the kingdom, but He hadn’t found it in Israel. He healed the lad instantly though not with him. The multitude feared, glorified God and spread the news. The people saw the centurion’s respect and generosity toward them and love for his slave. Christ saw his humility and faith.

v 14-17. Jesus not only healed Peter’s mother-in-law, but renewed her strength to work. Remaining at that house, Jesus cast out demons and healed all the sick that was brought to Him. Fulfillment of this ministry in Isa. 53:4 was completed at the cross.

v 18-20. MATT 8:18 WOULD-BE FOLLOWERS OF JEASUS: The Scribe, or teacher of the Law, impulsively wanted to follow a famous teacher, until Jesus told him the hardship of no permanent dwelling.

v 21,22. This man didn’t take discipleship seriously, his father wasn’t even dead. It may be he wanted to wait until inheritance was settled etc. A third man, Lk 9:61.62, could have spent a lengthy goodbye, but Jesus wanted him to know, like the other two, that he must put the ministry above all other things.

MATT 8:23 JESUS CALMS THE STORM AT SEA

Verse 24: STORM: Seism’s is a Greek term literally means "earthquake" 24:7 27:54 and 28:2 . They use the term to describe the violent condition of the Sea.

v 23-27. Jesus’ disciples were caught in one of the violent storms. The terrain allows sudden storms to sweep across the Sea of Galilee, and they were caught in one. In danger of their (standard 30’) boat sinking, they awakened Jesus. When Jesus rebuked the wind and waves both became immediately calm. “Peace be still”, Mk. 8:39 means “be muzzled and stay that way”. MATT 8:27 WINDS AND SEA OBEY HIM: The authority over the sea is credited to God alone in the OT ( Job 26:11-14 PS 89:8-10 93:4 107:28-31) AWARE OF: What the OT said, the disciples marveled and question Jesus "identity" their unbelieve indicated that Jesus manifested his divinity gradually, It wasn't untold later that they would worship Him as the "SON OF GOD"

v 28-34. MATT 8:28 JESUS HEALS THE GADARENE DEMONIACS: Gadarenes are from Gadara, capitol of an area 8 miles southeast of the Sea of Galilee. Mark and Luke call this the area of the Gerasene’s, from Gears, a town a little north of Gadara. Mark and Luke mention only one of these two men. One of them was totally uncontrollable, breaking chains with which he was bound. They were not sick, but demon possessed, and apparently not allowed in the city, so lived in the cave tombs. In answer to Jesus, the demons were so many they were called Legion. Demons desire to live in a body, so expecting to be cast out, they asked to enter swine. When they did, the hogs ran off a steep place into the sea and drowned. Instead of being thankful that the men were released, (One was sent to tell others.) the people looked at the economic loss of the hogs and asked Jesus to leave. MATT 8:26 REBUKED: The rebuking of Satan himself and used in connection with the exorcisms (12:28 mk 1:25 lk 4:41 jude 1:9
