KING JAMES BIBLE

1 BEHOLD, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.
2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
3 Then shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.
4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the Lord my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.
6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the Lord, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.
8 And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.
9 And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one.
10 All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem: and it shall be lifted up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin’s gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king’s winepresses.
11 And men shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.
12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the Lord will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.
13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the Lord shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.
14 And Judah also shall fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the heathen round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance.
15 And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in these tents, as this plague.
16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.
17 And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.
18 And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the Lord will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
19 This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
20 In that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses, HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD; and the pots in the Lord’s house shall be like the bowls before the altar.
21 Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the Lord of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the Lord of hosts.

THE NEW AMERICAN BIBLE

1 Lo, a day shall come for the LORD when the spoils shall be divided in your midst.

2 And I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem for battle: the city shall be taken, houses plundered, women ravished; half of the city shall go into exile, but the rest of the people shall not be removed from the city.

3 Then the LORD shall go forth and fight against those nations, fighting as on a day of battle.

4 That day his feet shall rest upon the Mount of Olives, which is opposite Jerusalem to the east. The Mount of Olives shall be cleft in two from east to west by a very deep valley, and half of the mountain shall move to the north and half of it to the south.

5 And the valley of the LORD'S mountain shall be filled up when the valley of those two mountains reaches its edge; it shall be filled up as it was filled up by the earthquake in the days of King Uzziah of Judah. Then the LORD, my God, shall come, and all his holy ones with him.

6 On that day there shall no longer be cold or frost.

7 There shall be one continuous day, known to the LORD, not day and night, for in the evening time there shall be light.

8 On that day, living waters shall flow from Jerusalem, half to the eastern sea, and half to the western sea, and it shall be so in summer and in winter.

9 The LORD shall become king over the whole earth; on that day the LORD shall be the only one, and his name the only one.

10 And from Geba to Rimmon in the Negeb, all the land shall turn into a plain; but Jerusalem shall remain exalted in its place. From the Gate of Benjamin to the place of the First Gate, to the Corner Gate; and from the Tower of Hananel to the king's wine presses,

11 they shall occupy her. Never again shall she be doomed; Jerusalem shall abide in security.

12 And this shall be the plague with which the LORD shall strike all the nations that have fought against Jerusalem: their flesh shall rot while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall rot in their sockets, and their tongues shall rot in their mouths.

13 On that day there shall be among them a great tumult from the LORD: every man shall seize the hand of his neighbor, and the hand of each shall be raised against that of his neighbor.

14 Judah also shall fight against Jerusalem. The riches of all the surrounding nations shall be gathered together, gold, silver, and garments, in great abundance.

15 Similar to this plague shall be the plague upon the horses, mules, camels, asses, and upon all the beasts that are in those camps.

16 All who are left of all the nations that came against Jerusalem shall come up year after year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to celebrate the feast of Booths.

17 If any of the families of the earth does not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, no rain shall fall upon them.

18 And if the family of Egypt does not come up, or enter, upon them shall fall the plague which the LORD will inflict upon all the nations that do not come up to celebrate the feast of Booths.

19 This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all the nations that do not come up to celebrate the feast of Booths.

20 On that day there shall be upon the bells of the horses, "Holy to the LORD." The pots in the house of the LORD shall be as the libation bowls before the altar.

21 And every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holy to the LORD of hosts; and all who come to sacrifice shall take them and cook in them. On that day there shall no longer be any merchant in the house of the LORD of hosts.

COMMENTARIE

v 1-3. Toward the end of the Tribulation during the campaign of Armageddon, some of Jerusalem will be taken and the armies are so confident of victory that they are plundering and dividing up spoils right within the city.  All nations will join in this crusade to completely destroy the Jews. There will be wide spread looting, rape, and half the people taken captive before the Lord steps in and intervenes.

v 4,5. When He intervenes, His feet first touch the Mount of Olives, cleaving it in two from east to west. This will form a valley reaching as far east as Azel, probably near a city gate, making a way of escape. This land movement will cause tremendous quaking and people will flee through, not to, the huge valley as they fled from an earlier earthquake, Amos 1:1. The Lord will be accompanied by angels and probably resurrected redeemed people.

v 6,7. An unusual time of light appearing like twilight day and night for a day.

v 8. After this land movement, a spring will develop from underground sources which without tributaries will develop into a river to swim in after a mile. Half will go to the Dead Sea and half to the Mediterranean. Details Ezek. 47:1-12 and Rev. 22:1,2.

v 9-11. In answer to the prayer of Mt. 6:10, Messiah will be King over all the earth. All Judea will be renovated like a plain by the earth movements, making it very good for habitation. Jerusalem will probably be a little higher and a secure, safe place.

v 12-15. This backs up to the nations which fought against Jerusalem and were destroyed by the Lord Some type of supernatural rapid flesh consuming plague strikes the enemy and their beasts, causing such panic they start fighting among themselves. Judah will go out to fight against them and obtain a wealth of plunder from them.

v 16. The Gentile armies will be destroyed, but the believing remnant of those who remain will go up to Jerusalem annually to worship. Much of the old Jewish ceremonies will be removed, but their is significance to the Feast of Tabernacles so that three times it is mentioned that all are to go for that.

v 17-19. If families throughout the world are not represented at the Feast of Tabernacles, their land will receive no rain. Egypt has the Nile for irrigation, but if they don’t go up, they will still have the plague of drouth. The symbolism of the first two feasts has been fulfilled, but Tabernacles was a reminder of the return to the land. It was a time of rest, joy and gladness because the Lord was among them.

v 20,21. In the Millennium there will be holiness throughout the land. In public life, bells on horses will be inscribed with “Holiness Unto The Lord”. Religiously, pots for cooking in the Lord’s house will be holy. Pots in private homes will be holy so there will be no distinction between the secular and the sacred. Canaanites were symbolic of things evil and unclean, but there will be no uncleanness, all will be holy to the Lord.
