Exodus 07
1 And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.
2Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.
3And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.
4But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.
5And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.
6And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they.
7And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh.
8And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
9When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent.
10And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent.
11Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.
12For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods.
13And he hardened Pharaoh's heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
14And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh's heart is hardened, he refuseth to let the people go.
15Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt stand by the river's brink against he come; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand.
16And thou shalt say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear.
17Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.
18And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall lothe to drink of the water of the river.
19And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.
20And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.
21And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
22And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as the LORD had said.
23And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he set his heart to this also.
24And all the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river.
25And seven days were fulfilled, after that the LORD had smitten the river.

5And the Egyptians shall knowe that I am the Lord, when I stretch forth mine hand vpon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.

17Thus saith the Lord, In this thou shalt know that I am the Lord: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in my hand, vpon the waters which are in the riuer, and they shalbe turned to blood.
18And the fish that is in the riuer shall die, and the riuer shall stincke, and the Egyptians shall loathe to drinke of the water of the riuer.

20And Moses and Aaron did so, as the Lord commanded: and he lift vp the rod and smote the waters that were in the riuer, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his seruants: and all the waters that were in the riuer, were turned to blood.

1 The LORD answered him, "See! I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall act as your prophet.
2 You shall tell him all that I command you. In turn, your brother Aaron shall tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites leave his land.
3 Yet I will make Pharaoh so obstinate that, despite the many signs and wonders that I will work in the land of Egypt,
4 he will not listen to you. Therefore I will lay my hand on Egypt and by great acts of judgment I will bring the hosts of my people, the Israelites, out of the land of Egypt,
5 so that the Egyptians may learn that I am the LORD, as I stretch out my hand against Egypt and lead the Israelites out of their midst."
6 Moses and Aaron did as the LORD had commanded them.
7 Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.
8 The LORD told Moses and Aaron,
9 "If Pharaoh demands that you work a sign or wonder, you shall say to Aaron: Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh, and it will be changed into a snake."
10 Then Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did as the LORD had commanded. Aaron threw his staff down before Pharaoh and his servants, and it was changed into a snake.
11 Pharaoh, in turn, summoned wise men and sorcerers, and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did likewise by their magic arts.
12 Each one threw down his staff, and it was changed into a snake. But Aaron's staff swallowed their staffs.
13 Pharaoh, however, was obstinate and would not listen to them, just as the LORD had foretold.
14 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh is obdurate in refusing to let the people go.
15 Tomorrow morning, when he sets out for the water, go and present yourself by the river bank, holding in your hand the staff that turned into a serpent.
16 Say to him: The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you with the message: Let my people go to worship me in the desert. But as yet you have not listened.
17 The LORD now says: This is how you shall know that I am the LORD. I will strike the water of the river with the staff I hold, and it shall be changed into blood.
18 The fish in the river shall die, and the river itself shall become so polluted that the Egyptians will be unable to drink its water."
19 The LORD then said to Moses, "Say to Aaron: Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt - their streams and canals and pools, all their supplies of water - that they may become blood. Throughout the land of Egypt there shall be blood, even in the wooden pails and stone jars."
20 Moses and Aaron did as the LORD had commanded. Aaron raised his staff and struck the waters of the river in full view of Pharaoh and his servants, and all the water of the river was changed into blood.
21 The fish in the river died, and the river itself became so polluted that the Egyptians could not drink its water. There was blood throughout the land of Egypt.
22 But the Egyptian magicians did the same by their magic arts. So Pharaoh remained obstinate and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had foretold.
23 He turned away and went into his house, with no concern even for this.
24 All the Egyptians had to dig in the neighborhood of the river for drinking water, since they could not drink the river water.
25 Seven days passed after the LORD had struck the river.
26 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and tell him: Thus says the LORD: Let my people go to worship me.
27 If you refuse to let them go, I warn you, I will send a plague of frogs over all your territory.
28 The river will teem with frogs. They will come up into your palace and into your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your servants, too, and your subjects, even into your ovens and your kneading bowls.
29 The frogs will swarm all over you and your subjects and your servants."
v 1,2. As we start this next phase of God’s dealing, He makes it plain that Moses will be as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron will be as a prophet who delivers the message, “Send Israel out of the land”.
v 3-5. We are responsible for our own actions, but God fore knows. God could have chosen a weak Pharaoh, but He used a stubborn one. This made the Israelites appreciate deliverance, and Egypt would know God is the Lord. Also prophetic that nations will know the Lord when He blesses Israel in the Kingdom.
v 6,7. Both were obedient, and here the ages are positively identified. From this we see that there had been at least 100 years of severe persecution.
v 8-13. Pharaoh asked for a miracle as proof of their claim. By enchantment the magician’s snakes may have been rigid till cast down, but more likely the Lord allowed Satan to go so far and use them to deceive with “lying wonders” as in 2 Thess. 2:9. Satan could not create life. Serpents are symbols of Satan who has the power of death and are swallowed up. In resurrection, death will be swallowed up in victory, 1 Cor. 15:4. Christ was victorious over death at His resurrection. The same sun that melts butter will harden clay, and the same act of God that draws some to Him will only harden the heart of the rebellious.
v 14-21. Pharaoh was to be given warning of exactly what was going to happen so he would have proof it was from God. This is the first time God had Moses meet Pharaoh at the river. The Nile was a main object of worship, so this would show God’s power over the god of the Nile. All water turned to blood as stated. Pharaoh saw the miracle but didn’t let it concern him. He didn’t realize it’s full extent until later.
v 22-25 They had to dig in the sand to get water.. Probably by fake actions the magicians made it appear they too turned water to blood, but they could not change it back and it lasted seven days. No natural phenomena can explain these ten miracles, but only the mighty hand of God.
The following chart is detailed in chapters 7 through 10.
The first 9 plagues <______Warning______> No warning
--------------------------------------------------------
On all---------------- Blood-----------Frogs-------------Lice
(On < Flies Murrain )> Boils
(Egypt < )>
(Only < Hail Locusts )> Darkness
--------------------------------------------------------
The “miracles” or imitations of the Magicians in 7, 11, 12, 22 and 8:7 would be similar to the signs and lying wonders mentioned in 2 Thess. 2:9.
Plagues Length
7:10 Next day - Moses goes to Pharaoh and rods turn to serpents.
7:15 Next day - Moses turns waters to blood.
7:25, 8:1 Seven days fulfilled and Lord speaks to Moses.
