CHAPTER 25 TO 31 DIRECTIONS FOR THE TABERNACLE: It was a pattern of things to come but it had special meaning to the Hebrew Nation Heb 9 and 10
KING JAMES BIBLE

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

2Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering.

3And this is the offering which ye shall take of them; gold, and silver, and brass,

4And blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats' hair,

5And rams' skins dyed red, and badgers' skins, and shittim wood,

6Oil for the light, spices for anointing oil, and for sweet incense,

7Onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod, and in the breastplate.

8And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.

9According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.

10And they shall make an ark of shittim wood: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.

11And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, within and without shalt thou overlay it, and shalt make upon it a crown of gold round about.

12And thou shalt cast four rings of gold for it, and put them in the four corners thereof; and two rings shall be in the one side of it, and two rings in the other side of it.

13And thou shalt make staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold.

14And thou shalt put the staves into the rings by the sides of the ark, that the ark may be borne with them.

15The staves shall be in the rings of the ark: they shall not be taken from it.

16And thou shalt put into the ark the testimony which I shall give thee.

17And thou shalt make a mercy seat of pure gold: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof.

18And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the mercy seat.

19And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on the other end: even of the mercy seat shall ye make the cherubims on the two ends thereof.

20And the cherubims shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubims be.

21And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark; and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee.

22And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which areupon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.

23Thou shalt also make a table of shittim wood: two cubits shall be the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.

24And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, and make thereto a crown of gold round about.

25And thou shalt make unto it a border of an hand breadth round about, and thou shalt make a golden crown to the border thereof round about.

26And thou shalt make for it four rings of gold, and put the rings in the four corners that are on the four feet thereof.

27Over against the border shall the rings be for places of the staves to bear the table.

28And thou shalt make the staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold, that the table may be borne with them.

29And thou shalt make the dishes thereof, and spoons thereof, and covers thereof, and bowls thereof, to cover withal: of pure gold shalt thou make them.

30And thou shalt set upon the table shewbread before me alway.

31And thou shalt make a candlestick of pure gold: of beaten work shall the candlestick be made: his shaft, and his branches, his bowls, his knops, and his flowers, shall be of the same.

32And six branches shall come out of the sides of it; three branches of the candlestick out of the one side, and three branches of the candlestick out of the other side:

33Three bowls made like unto almonds, with a knop and a flower in one branch; and three bowls made like almonds in the other branch, with a knop and a flower: so in the six branches that come out of the candlestick.

34And in the candlestick shall be four bowls made like unto almonds, with their knops and their flowers.

35And there shall be a knop under two branches of the same, and a knop under two branches of the same, and a knop under two branches of the same, according to the six branches that proceed out of the candlestick.

36Their knops and their branches shall be of the same: all it shall beone beaten work of pure gold.

37And thou shalt make the seven lamps thereof: and they shall light the lamps thereof, that they may give light over against it.

38And the tongs thereof, and the snuffdishes thereof, shall be of pure gold.

39Of a talent of pure gold shall he make it, with all these vessels.

40And look that thou make them after their pattern, which was shewed thee in the mount.

THE NEW AMERICAN BIBLE

1 This is what the LORD then said to Moses:

2 "Tell the Israelites to take up a collection for me. From every man you shall accept the contribution that his heart prompts him to give me.

3 These are the contributions you shall accept from them: gold, silver and bronze;

4 violet, purple and scarlet yarn; fine linen and goat hair;

5 rams' skins dyed red, and tahash skins; acacia wood;

6 oil for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense;

7 onyx stones and other gems for mounting on the ephod and the breastpiece.

8 "They shall make a sanctuary for me, that I may dwell in their midst.

9 This Dwelling and all its furnishings you shall make exactly according to the pattern that I will now show you.

10 "You shall make an ark of acacia wood, two and a half cubits long, one and a half cubits wide, and one and a half cubits high.

11 Plate it inside and outside with pure gold, and put a molding of gold around the top of it.

12 Cast four gold rings and fasten them on the four supports of the ark, two rings on one side and two on the opposite side.

13 Then make poles of acacia wood and plate them with gold.

14 These poles you are to put through the rings on the sides of the ark, for carrying it;

15 they must remain in the rings of the ark and never be withdrawn.

16 In the ark you are to put the commandments which I will give you.

17 "You shall then make a propitiatory of pure gold, two cubits and a half long, and one and a half cubits wide.

18 Make two cherubim of beaten gold for the two ends of the propitiatory,

19 fastening them so that one cherub springs direct from each end.

20 The cherubim shall have their wings spread out above, covering the propitiatory with them; they shall be turned toward each other, but with their faces looking toward the propitiatory.

21 This propitiatory you shall then place on top of the ark. In the ark itself you are to put the commandments which I will give you.

22 There I will meet you and there, from above the propitiatory, between the two cherubim on the ark of the commandments, I will tell you all the commands that I wish you to give the Israelites.

23 "You shall also make a table of acacia wood, two cubits long, a cubit wide, and a cubit and a half high.

24 Plate it with pure gold and make a molding of gold around it.

25 Surround it with a frame, a handbreadth high, with a molding of gold around the frame.

26 You shall also make four rings of gold for it and fasten them at the four corners, one at each leg,

27 on two opposite sides of the frame as holders for the poles to carry the table.

28 These poles for carrying the table you shall make of acacia wood and plate with gold.

29 Of pure gold you shall make its plates and cups, as well as its pitchers and bowls for pouring libations.

30 On the table you shall always keep showbread set before me.

31 "You shall make a lampstand of pure beaten gold - its shaft and branches - with its cups and knobs and petals springing directly from it.

32 Six branches are to extend from the sides of the lampstand, three branches on one side, and three on the other.

33 On one branch there are to be three cups, shaped like almond blossoms, each with its knob and petals; on the opposite branch there are to be three cups, shaped like almond blossoms, each with its knob and petals; and so for the six branches that extend from the lampstand.

34 On the shaft there are to be four cups, shaped like almond blossoms, with their knobs and petals,

35 including a knob below each of the three pairs of branches that extend from the lampstand.

36 Their knobs and branches shall so spring from it that the whole will form but a single piece of pure beaten gold.

37 You shall then make seven lamps for it and so set up the lamps that they shed their light on the space in front of the lampstand.

38 These, as well as the trimming shears and trays, must be of pure gold.

39 Use a talent of pure gold for the lampstand and all its appurtenances.

40 See that you make them according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.

COMMENTARIE

v 1,2. This was to be a free will offering from items that had been given to them by the Egyptians when they left.

v 3-10. This lists some very precious items to be donated. The tabernacle which Moses was to have made would be precisely according to a pattern God showed him on the mountain, nothing left to his own ingenuity. This tabernacle was to be typical in three ways. a. The Church as a habitation of God through the Spirit, v 8 and Eph. 2:19-22. b. The indwelt believer, 2 Cor. 6:16. c. A figure of things in the heavens, Heb. 9:23,24. Every thing in it speaks of Christ in some way.

v 11-22. The ark was of wood overlaid with gold, speaking of the humanity and deity of Christ. The staves were across the ends, not the front and back, so the cherubim would both be carried somewhat forward. The staves were left in place in the tabernacle so it could be readily moved without being touched. In 1 Kings 8:8 the staves were partially drawn out visibly, because the ark was at rest in the temple.

v 23-30. The table of showbread was also wood overlaid with gold. It had a rim to keep the bread from sliding off during transport. The utensils were pure gold. The showbread is typical of Christ, the bread of life. The showbread typifies Christ as the grain of wheat, Jn. 12:24, ground in the mill of suffering, Jn. 12:27, and brought into the fire of judgment, Jn. 12:31-33. As priests, we feed upon Him.

v 31-40. The lamp stand was solid gold, speaking of Christ’s deity. The utensils that went along with it were also pure gold. It was beautifully designed and speaks of Christ the light of the world, Jn 1:4-9; 8:12; 9:5. A talent of gold is 60 - 100 pounds. Gold is figured different, but at 75 pounds, this would be 1200 ounces. Multiplied by today's price per ounce, you can see the tremendous monetary value. The seven lamps represent the sevenfold Spirit, Isa. 11:2; Heb. 1:9; Rev. 1:4.
