Offerings Made by the Heads of the Tribes
v 1-9. The princes were probably instructed, v 11, to bring their offerings at the same time they brought offerings for the dedicating of the altar on the very day it was anointed. The gifts to the Levites were, a wagon for every two princes and from each one an ox. Moses distributed them, two wagons to the Gershonites for carrying the heavy curtain material, four to Merarites to carry all the heavy boards, pillars, bases, pegs etc. All those were under the supervision of Ithamar, the priest. The Kohathites received none because they carried with staves on their shoulders.
v 10,11. Then the Lord instructed that each prince offer his own offering, each on his own day. These were for the purpose of dedicating the altar.
v 12-83. The items are self explanatory right from the Scripture, and the items are identical for each prince. The Lord listed the gifts individually and exactly to show that He is interested in every thing detail of their lives (and ours). The tribes were different in size and location, but in recording each one’s gift on a different day, God shows that they are all equally important to Him.
