KING JAMES BIBLE

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

2Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, My offering, and my bread for my sacrifices made by fire, for a sweet savour unto me, shall ye observe to offer unto me in their due season.

3And thou shalt say unto them, This is the offering made by fire which ye shall offer unto the LORD; two lambs of the first year without spot day by day, for a continual burnt offering.

4The one lamb shalt thou offer in the morning, and the other lamb shalt thou offer at even;

5And a tenth part of an ephah of flour for a meat offering, mingled with the fourth part of an hin of beaten oil.

6It is a continual burnt offering, which was ordained in mount Sinai for a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD.

7And the drink offering thereof shall be the fourth part of an hin for the one lamb: in the holy place shalt thou cause the strong wine to be poured unto the LORD for a drink offering.

8And the other lamb shalt thou offer at even: as the meat offering of the morning, and as the drink offering thereof, thou shalt offer it, a sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

9And on the sabbath day two lambs of the first year without spot, and two tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, and the drink offering thereof:

10This is the burnt offering of every sabbath, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.

11And in the beginnings of your months ye shall offer a burnt offering unto the LORD; two young bullocks, and one ram, seven lambs of the first year without spot;

12And three tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, for one bullock; and two tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, for one ram;

13And a several tenth deal of flour mingled with oil for a meat offering unto one lamb; for a burnt offering of a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD.

14And their drink offerings shall be half an hin of wine unto a bullock, and the third part of an hin unto a ram, and a fourth part of an hin unto a lamb: this is the burnt offering of every month throughout the months of the year.

15And one kid of the goats for a sin offering unto the LORD shall be offered, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.

16And in the fourteenth day of the first month is the passover of the LORD.

17And in the fifteenth day of this month is the feast: seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten.

18In the first day shall be an holy convocation; ye shall do no manner of servile work therein:

19But ye shall offer a sacrifice made by fire for a burnt offering unto the LORD; two young bullocks, and one ram, and seven lambs of the first year: they shall be unto you without blemish:

20And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil: three tenth deals shall ye offer for a bullock, and two tenth deals for a ram;

21A several tenth deal shalt thou offer for every lamb, throughout the seven lambs:

22And one goat for a sin offering, to make an atonement for you.

23Ye shall offer these beside the burnt offering in the morning, which is for a continual burnt offering.

24After this manner ye shall offer daily, throughout the seven days, the meat of the sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD: it shall be offered beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.

25And on the seventh day ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work.

26Also in the day of the firstfruits, when ye bring a new meat offering unto the LORD, after your weeks be out, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work:

27But ye shall offer the burnt offering for a sweet savour unto the LORD; two young bullocks, one ram, seven lambs of the first year;

28And their meat offering of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals unto one bullock, two tenth deals unto one ram,

29A several tenth deal unto one lamb, throughout the seven lambs;

30And one kid of the goats, to make an atonement for you.

31Ye shall offer them beside the continual burnt offering, and his meat offering, (they shall be unto you without blemish) and their drink offerings.

THE NEW AMERICAN BIBLE

1 The LORD said to Moses,

2"Give the Israelites this commandment: At the times I have appointed, you shall be careful to present to me the food offerings that are offered to me as sweet-smelling oblations.

3 "You shall tell them therefore: This is the oblation which you shall offer to the LORD: two unblemished yearling lambs each day as the established holocaust,

4 offering one lamb in the morning and the other during the evening twilight,

5 each with a cereal offering of one tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with a fourth of a hin of oil of crushed olives.

6 This is the established holocaust that was offered at Mount Sinai as a sweet-smelling oblation to the LORD.

7 And as the libation for the first lamb, you shall pour out to the LORD in the sanctuary a fourth of a hin of wine.

8 The other lamb, to be offered during the evening twilight, you shall offer with the same cereal offering and the same libation as in the morning, as a sweet-smelling oblation to the LORD.

9 "On the sabbath day you shall offer two unblemished yearling lambs, with their cereal offering, two tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil, and with their libations.

10 Each sabbath there shall be the sabbath holocaust in addition to the established holocaust and its libation.

11 "On the first of each month you shall offer as a holocaust to the LORD two bullocks, one ram, and seven unblemished yearling lambs,

12 with three tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil as the cereal offering for each bullock, two tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil as the cereal offering for the ram,

13 and one tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil as the cereal offering for each lamb, that the holocaust may be a sweet-smelling oblation to the LORD.

14 Their libations shall be half a hin of wine for each bullock, a third of a hin for the ram, and a fourth of a hin for each lamb. This is the new moon holocaust for every new moon of the year.

15 Moreover, one goat shall be sacrificed as a sin offering to the LORD. These are to be offered in addition to the established holocaust and its libation.

16 "On the fourteenth day of the first month falls the Passover of the LORD,

17 and the fifteenth day of this month is the pilgrimage feast. For seven days unleavened bread is to be eaten.

18 On the first of these days you shall hold a sacred assembly, and do no sort of work.

19 As an oblation you shall offer a holocaust to the LORD, which shall consist of two bullocks, one ram, and seven yearling lambs that you are sure are unblemished,

20 with their cereal offerings of fine flour mixed with oil; offering three tenths of an ephah for each bullock, two tenths for the ram,

21 and one tenth for each of the seven lambs;

22 and offer one goat as a sin offering in atonement for yourselves.

23 These offerings you shall make in addition to the established morning holocaust:

24 you shall make exactly the same offerings each day for seven days as food offerings, in addition to the established holocaust with its libation, for a sweet-smelling oblation to the LORD.

25 On the seventh day you shall hold a sacred assembly, and do no sort of work.

26 "On the day of first fruits, on your feast of Weeks, when you present to the LORD the new cereal offering, you shall hold a sacred assembly, and do no sort of work.

27 You shall offer as a sweet-smelling holocaust to the LORD two bullocks, one ram, and seven yearling lambs that you are sure are unblemished,

28 with their cereal offerings of fine flour mixed with oil; offering three tenths of an ephah for each bullock, two tenths for the ram,

29 and one tenth for each of the seven lambs.

30 Moreover, one goat shall be offered as a sin offering in atonement for yourselves.

31 You shall make these offerings, together with their libations, in addition to the established holocaust with its cereal offering.

COMMENTARIE

These chapters give the order of the offerings consecutively.

v 1. The continual burnt offering. One lamb in the morning, a tenth of an ephah of flour mixed with a fourth of a hin of beaten oil for a meal offering, also a drink offering of one fourth hin of strong wine. The same was offered in the evening. Concerning the strong drink, see The Bible and It’s Wines by Charles Wesley Ewing, page 4. Proper translation here is “Date syrup, honey or sugar or palm juice”. It can also be strong drink in many instances. According to Josephus, the Passover lamb was slain between the ninth and eleventh hours, or three to five in the late afternoon. Christ died at the ninth hour, 3 o’clock at the time of the evening sacrifice, Matt. 27:45. Contrary to a popular belief, He did not die at the time the Passover lamb died, because He and His disciples had eaten the Passover 24 hours earlier.

v 9. Sabbath offering. This is the same each morning and evening as, but in addition to, the continual burnt offering and it’s drink offering.

v 11. The first day of each month was another special offering. I will not detail the other offerings now or make another chart. See my Feasts of Jehovah chart at Lev. 23 for an overview of the main feasts . There is also a good detailed chart of these offering on page 248 of The Bible Knowledge Commentary by Walvoord and Zuck.

v 16. Passover. The fourteenth day of the first month.

v 17. Feast of Unleavened Bread. First day of first month, and unleavened bread to be eaten seven days. The first day is a holy convocation, or sacred assembly. No servile work, that is, no laborious work like a servant would do. This is different from some where the command is no work, period. Check the large number of lambs sacrificed and another holy convocation with no servile work on the seventh day.
(Feast of Firstfruits on the second day of Feast of Unleavened Bread is not listed. The first sheaf of barley was waved instead of burned. See details in Lev. 23:10-14.)

v 26. Day of First Fruits. (Loaves) This is also Feast of Weeks, Pentecost. Fifty days have passed and first fruits of the wheat harvest, that is new meal, are offered as two loaves See Acts 2:1. This represents Jews and Gentiles in one body, the Church.
