Numbers 09
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,
2Let the children of Israel also keep the passover at his appointed season.
3In the fourteenth day of this month, at even, ye shall keep it in his appointed season: according to all the rites of it, and according to all the ceremonies thereof, shall ye keep it.
4And Moses spake unto the children of Israel, that they should keep the passover.
5And they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month at even in the wilderness of Sinai: according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did the children of Israel.
6And there were certain men, who were defiled by the dead body of a man, that they could not keep the passover on that day: and they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day:
7And those men said unto him, We are defiled by the dead body of a man: wherefore are we kept back, that we may not offer an offering of the LORD in his appointed season among the children of Israel?
8And Moses said unto them, Stand still, and I will hear what the LORD will command concerning you.
9And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
10Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If any man of you or of your posterity shall be unclean by reason of a dead body, or be in a journey afar off, yet he shall keep the passover unto the LORD.
11The fourteenth day of the second month at even they shall keep it, and eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.
12They shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor break any bone of it: according to all the ordinances of the passover they shall keep it.
13But the man that is clean, and is not in a journey, and forbeareth to keep the passover, even the same soul shall be cut off from among his people: because he brought not the offering of the LORD in his appointed season, that man shall bear his sin.
14And if a stranger shall sojourn among you, and will keep the passover unto the LORD; according to the ordinance of the passover, and according to the manner thereof, so shall he do: ye shall have one ordinance, both for the stranger, and for him that was born in the land.
15And on the day that the tabernacle was reared up the cloud covered the tabernacle, namely, the tent of the testimony: and at even there was upon the tabernacle as it were the appearance of fire, until the morning.
16So it was alway: the cloud covered it by day, and the appearance of fire by night.
17And when the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, then after that the children of Israel journeyed: and in the place where the cloud abode, there the children of Israel pitched their tents.
18At the commandment of the LORD the children of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the LORD they pitched: as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they rested in their tents.
19And when the cloud tarried long upon the tabernacle many days, then the children of Israel kept the charge of the LORD, and journeyed not.
20And so it was, when the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle; according to the commandment of the LORD they abode in their tents, and according to the commandment of the LORD they journeyed.
21And so it was, when the cloud abode from even unto the morning, and that the cloud was taken up in the morning, then they journeyed: whether it was by day or by night that the cloud was taken up, they journeyed.
22Or whether it were two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, remaining thereon, the children of Israel abode in their tents, and journeyed not: but when it was taken up, they journeyed.
23At the commandment of the LORD they rested in the tents, and at the commandment of the LORD they journeyed: they kept the charge of the LORD, at the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
1 And the Lord spake vnto Moses in the wildernesse of Sinai, in the first moneth of the second yeere; after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,
2Let the children of Israel also keepe the Passeouer, at his appointed season.
3In the fourteenth day of this moneth at euen, ye shall keepe it in his appointed season: according to all the rites of it, and according to all the ceremonies thereof shall ye keepe it.
4And Moses spake vnto the children of Israel that they should keepe the Passeouer.
5And they kept the Passeouer on the fourteenth day of the first moneth at Euen, in the wildernesse of Sinai: according to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so did the children of Israel.
6 And there were certaine men who were defiled by the dead body of a man, that they could not keepe the Passeouer on that day: and they came before Moses, and before Aaron on that day.
7And those men said vnto him, We are defiled by the dead body of a man: wherefore are we kept backe, that wee may not offer an offring of the Lord in his appointed season among the children of Israel?
8And Moses saide vnto them, Stand still, and I will heare what the Lord wil command concerning you.
9 And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,
10Speake vnto the children of Israel, saying, If any man of you, or of your posteritie shall be vncleane by reason of a dead body, or bee in a iourney afarre off, yet he shall keepe the Passeouer vnto the Lord.
11The fourteenth day of the second moneth at Euen they shall keepe it, and eat it with vnleauened bread and bitter herbes.
12They shall leaue none of it vnto the morning, nor breake any bone of it: according to all the ordinances of the Passeouer they shall keepe it.
13But the man that is cleane, and is not in a iourney, and forbeareth to keep the Passeouer, euen the same soule shall be cut off from his people, because hee brought not the offering of the Lord in his appointed season: that man shall beare his sinne.
14And if a stranger shall soiourne among you, and will keepe the Passeouer vnto the Lord; according to the ordinance of the Passeouer, and according to the maner thereof, so shall he doe: ye shall haue one ordinance, both for the stranger, and for him that was borne in the land.
15 And on the day that the Tabernacle was reared vp, the cloud couered the Tabernacle, namely the Tent of the Testimony: and at Euen there was vpon the Tabernacle, as it were the appearance of fire, vntill the morning.
16So it was always: the cloud couered it by day, and the appearance of fire by night.
17And when the cloud was taken vp from the Tabernacle, then after that, the children of Israel iourneyed, and in the place where the cloud abode, there the children of Israel pitched their tents.
18At the commandement of the Lord the children of Israel iourneied, and at the commandement of the Lord they pitched: as long as the cloud abode vpon the Tabernacle, they rested in the tents.
19And when the cloud taried long vpon the Tabernacle many daies, then the children of Israel kept the charge of the Lord, and iourneyed not.
20And so it was when the cloude was a few daies vpon the Tabernacle, according to the commandement of the Lord, they abode in their tents, and according to the commandement of the Lord, they iourneyed.
21And so it was when the cloude abode from Euen vnto the morning, and that the cloude was taken vp in the morning, then they iourneyed: whether it was by day or by night that the cloude was taken vp, they iourneyed.
22Or whether it were two dayes, or a moneth, or a yeere that the cloude taried vpon the Tabernacle, remayning thereon, the children of Israel abode in their tents, and iourneyed not: but when it was taken vp, they iourneyed.
23At the commandement of the Lord they rested in the tents, and at the commaundement of the Lord they iourneyed: they kept the charge of the Lord, at the commandement of the Lord by the hand of Moses.

1 In the first month of the year following their departure from the land of Egypt, the Lord said to Moses in the desert of Sinai,
2 "Tell the Israelites to celebrate the Passover at the prescribed time.
3 The evening twilight of the fourteenth day of this month is the prescribed time when you shall celebrate it, observing all its rules and regulations."
4 Moses, therefore, told the Israelites to celebrate the Passover.
5 And they did so, celebrating the Passover in the desert of Sinai during the evening twilight of the fourteenth day of the first month, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
6 There were some, however, who were unclean because of a human corpse and so could not keep the Passover that day. These men came up to Moses and Aaron that same day
7 and said, "Although we are unclean because of a corpse, why should we be deprived of presenting the LORD'S offering at its proper time along with the other Israelites?"
8 Moses answered them, "Wait until I learn what the LORD will command in your regard."
9 The LORD then said to Moses:
10 "Speak to the Israelites and say: If any one of you or of your descendants is unclean because of a corpse, or if he is absent on a journey, he may still keep the LORD'S Passover.
11 But he shall keep it in the second month, during the evening twilight of the fourteenth day of that month, eating it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs,
12 and not leaving any of it over till morning, nor breaking any of its bones, but observing all the rules of the Passover.
13 However, anyone who is clean and not away on a journey, who yet fails to keep the Passover, shall be cut off from his people, because he did not present the LORD'S offering at the prescribed time. That man shall bear the consequences of his sin.
14 "If an alien who lives among you wishes to keep the LORD'S Passover, he too shall observe the rules and regulations for the Passover. You shall have the same law for the resident alien as for the native of the land."
15 On the day when the Dwelling was erected, the cloud covered the Dwelling, the tent of the commandments; but from evening until morning it took on the appearance of fire over the Dwelling.
16 It was always so: during the day the Dwelling was covered by the cloud, which at night had the appearance of fire.
17 Whenever the cloud rose from the tent, the Israelites would break camp; wherever the cloud came to rest, they would pitch camp.
18 At the bidding of the LORD the Israelites moved on, and at his bidding they encamped. As long as the cloud stayed over the Dwelling, they remained in camp.
19 Even when the cloud tarried many days over the Dwelling, the Israelites obeyed the LORD and would not move on;
20 yet sometimes the cloud was over the Dwelling only for a few days. It was at the bidding of the LORD that they stayed in camp, and it was at his bidding that they departed.
21 Sometimes the cloud remained there only from evening until morning; and when it rose in the morning, they would depart. Or if the cloud lifted during the day, or even at night, they would then set out.
22 Whether the cloud tarried over the Dwelling for two days or for a month or longer, the Israelites remained in camp and did not depart; but when it lifted, they moved on.
23 Thus, it was always at the bidding of the LORD that they encamped, and at his bidding that they set out; ever heeding the charge of the LORD, as he had bidden them through Moses.
1 to 14 The Second Passover
v 1-5. This reviews the instruction concerning instruction for and observation of the passover the 14th day of the 1st month of the 2nd year after the Exodus at Sinai.
v 6-8. The possibility of becoming defiled by a dead body was a new event, but one which might happen many times in the future, so Moses takes the problem to God.
v 9-14. The Lord generously allowed that any one who missed the passover because of defilement by a dead body or being on a long journey could celebrate it the 14th day of the 2nd month, of course meeting the other usual requirements. The same rule would apply to any alien living among them who had shown his faith by circumcision. There were many other reasons why a person might be unclean, but no provision was made for them. However, anyone who was clean but and able to come for the Passover but neglected to do so, that person was to be cut off, excommunicated or possibly it implies even put to death.
15 to 23 The Cloud of Fire
v 15-23. From the day the tabernacle was set up, the cloud of the Lord rested upon it by day and the appearance of a pillar of fire covered it by night. As long as it was there, they stayed at their tents, whether from a day to a year. When it lifted up, they moved on, whether it was by day or by night. They followed this commandment of the Lord as it was passed on to them by Moses.
