Isaiah 43

KING JAMES BIBLE KING JAMES 1611 VERSES TO VERSES THE NEW AMERICAN BIBLE COMMENTARIE

BUT now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
3 For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.
4 Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.
5 Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;
6 I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth;
7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.
8 Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears.
9 Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth.
10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
11 I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no saviour.
12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God.
13 Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?
14 Thus saith the Lord, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, and the Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships.
15 I am the Lord, your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King.
16 Thus saith the Lord, which maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters;
17 Which bringeth forth the chariot and horse, the army and the power; they shall lie down together, they shall not rise: they are extinct, they are quenched as tow.
18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
20 The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.
21 This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.
22 But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary of me, O Israel.
23 Thou hast not brought me the small cattle of thy burnt offerings; neither hast thou honoured me with thy sacrifices. I have not caused thee to serve with an offering, nor wearied thee with incense.
24 Thou hast bought me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy sacrifices: but thou hast made me to serve with thy sins, thou hast wearied me with thine iniquities.
25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
26 Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.
27 Thy first father hath sinned, and thy teachers have transgressed against me.

28 Therefore I have profaned the princes of the sanctuary, and have given Jacob to the curse, and Israel to reproaches.

1But now thus sayeth the Lord that created thee, O Iacob, and hee that formed thee, O Israel; Feare not: for I haue redeemed thee, I haue called thee by thy name, thou art mine.

2When thou passest through the waters, I wil be with thee; and through the riuers, they shal not ouerflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burnt; neither shall the flame kindle vpon thee.

3For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy one of Israel, thy Sauiour: I gaue Egypt for thy ransome, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.

4Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast bene honourable, and I haue loued thee: therefore will I giue men for thee, and people for thy life.

5Feare not, for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the East, and gather thee from the West.

6I wil say to the North, Giue vp; and to the South, Keepe not backe: bring my sonnes from farre, and my daughters from the ends of the earth;

7Euen euery one that is called by my Name: for I haue created him for my glory, I haue formed him, yea I haue made him.

8 Bring foorth the blinde people, that haue eyes; and the deafe that haue eares.

9Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew vs former things? let them bring foorth their witnesses, that they may be iustified: or let them heare, and say, It is trueth.

10Yee are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my seruant whom I haue chosen: that ye may know and beleeue me, and vnderstand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

11I, euen I am the Lord, and beside me there is no Sauiour.

12I haue declared, and haue saued, and I haue shewed, when there was no strange God among you: therefore yee are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God.

13Yea before the day was, I am hee; and there is none that can deliuer out of my hand: I will worke, and who shall let it?

14 Thus sayth the Lord your Redeemer, the Holy one of Israel; For your sake I haue sent to Babylon, and haue brought downe all their nobles, and the Caldeans, whose crie is in the shippes.

15I am the Lord, your Holy one, the Creatour of Israel, your King.

16Thus sayth the Lord, which maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mightie waters:

17Which bringeth foorth the charet and horse, the armie and the power: they shall lie downe together, they shall not rise: they are extinct, they are quenched as towe.

18 Remember yee not the former things, neither consider the things of olde.

19Behold, I will doe a new thing: now it shall spring foorth, shall yee not know it? I will euen make a way in the wildernesse, and riuers in the desert.

20The beast of the field shall honor mee, the dragons and the owles, because I giue waters in the wildernesse, and riuers in the desert, to giue drinke to my people, my chosen.

21This people haue I formed for my selfe, they shall shewe foorth my praise.

22 But thou hast not called vpon me, O Iacob, but thou hast beene wearie of me, O Israel.

23Thou hast not brought mee the small cattell of thy burnt offrings, neither hast thou honoured mee with thy sacrifices. I haue not caused thee to serue with an offring, nor wearied thee with incense.

24Thou hast bought mee no sweete cane with money, neither hast thou filled mee with the fat of thy sacrifices: but thou hast made mee to serue with thy sins, thou hast wearied mee with thine iniquities.

25I, euen I am hee that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine owne sake, and will not remember thy sinnes.

26Put mee in remembrance: let vs plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest bee iustified.

27Thy first father hath sinned, and thy teachers haue transgressed against mee.

28Therefore I haue profaned the princes of the Sanctuarie, and haue giuen Iacob to the curse, and Israel to reproches.

1 But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, and formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name: you are mine.

2 When you pass through the water, I will be with you; in the rivers you shall not drown. When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned; the flames shall not consume you.

3 For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your savior. I give Egypt as your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in return for you.

4 Because you are precious in my eyes and glorious, and because I love you, I give men in return for you and peoples in exchange for your life.

5 Fear not, for I am with you; from the east I will bring back your descendants, from the west I will gather you.

6 I will say to the north: Give them up! and to the south: Hold not back! Bring back my sons from afar, and my daughters from the ends of the earth:

7 Everyone who is named as mine, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.

8 Lead out the people who are blind though they have eyes, who are deaf though they have ears.

9 Let all the nations gather together, let the peoples assemble! Who among them could have revealed this, or foretold to us the earlier things? Let them produce witnesses to prove themselves right, that one may hear and say, "It is true!"

10 You are my witnesses, says the LORD, my servants whom I have chosen To know and believe in me and understand that it is I. Before me no god was formed, and after me there shall be none.

11 It is I, I the LORD; there is no savior but me.

12 It is I who foretold, I who saved; I made it known, not any strange god among you; You are my witnesses, says the LORD. I am God,

13 yes, from eternity I am He; There is none who can deliver from my hand: who can countermand what I do?

14 Thus says the LORD, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: For your sakes I send to Babylon; I will lower all the bars, and the Chaldeans shall cry out in lamentation.

15 I am the LORD, your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King.

16 Thus says the LORD, who opens a way in the sea and a path in the mighty waters,

17 Who leads out chariots and horsemen, a powerful army, Till they lie prostrate together, never to rise, snuffed out and quenched like a wick.

18 Remember not the events of the past, the things of long ago consider not;

19 See, I am doing something new! Now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? In the desert I make a way, in the wasteland, rivers.

20 Wild beasts honor me, jackals and ostriches, For I put water in the desert and rivers in the wasteland for my chosen people to drink,

21 The people whom I formed for myself, that they might announce my praise.

22 Yet you did not call upon me, O Jacob, for you grew weary of me, O Israel.

23 You did not bring me sheep for your holocausts, nor honor me with your sacrifices. I did not exact from you the service of offerings, nor weary you for frankincense.

24 You did not buy me sweet cane for money, nor fill me with the fat of your sacrifices; Instead, you burdened me with your sins, and wearied me with your crimes.

25 It is I, I, who wipe out, for my own sake, your offenses; your sins I remember no more.

26 Would you have me remember, have us come to trial? Speak up, prove your innocence!

27 Your first father sinned; your spokesmen rebelled against me

28 Till I repudiated the holy gates, put Jacob under the ban, and exposed Israel to scorn.

v 1,2. [1] Israel need not fear in their captivity because God had created them.

v 3,4. [2] They need not fear because God loved them. Persia was given the nations listed as a ransom for releasing Israel from captivity.

v 5-7. [3] They need not fear because God was with them and had promised to bring them back. This speaks both of from Babylon and regathering at the Second Coming.

v 8-13. Other nations were called to bring witnesses to prove they could foretell the future, otherwise, listen to Him. Then He emphasizes that Israel are His witnesses that He is God, and He is the only savior and deliverer.

v 14,15. Emphasis, “the Lord said” conquering Babylon would be conquered.

v 16-21. Exodus from Egypt was great, but the Lord would do a greater thing in the Exodus from Babylon, bringing them back through the desert, and an even greater thing when Messiah regathers Israel for His Millennial reign.

v 22-28. Israel could not bring offerings to the Jerusalem temple while they were in Babylon, and indeed had not troubled themselves about it, but continued in sins. So they deserved nothing, but God forgave and blotted out their sins anyway. They were to plead why they should be justified, because Adam, or more likely Abraham, and their spiritual leaders had also sinned, and that was the reason for their captivity.
