1 AFTER these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias.
2 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased.
3 And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his with his disciples.
4 And the passover, a fest of the Jews, was nigh
5 When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?
6 And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.
7 Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.
8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him,
9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?
10 And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
11 And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.
12 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.
13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.
14 Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.
15 When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
16 And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea,
17 And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.
18 And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.
19 So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid.
20 But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.
21 Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.
22 The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone;
23 (Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they did eat bread, after that the Lord had given thanks:)
24 When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus.
25 And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?
26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.
27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?
31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
39 And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.
42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?
43 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.
44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
48 I am that bread of life.
49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.
65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?
71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

9There is a lad here, which hath fiue barley loaues, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?

10And Iesus said, Make the men sit downe. Now there was much grasse in the place. So the men sate downe, in number about fiue thousand.

11And Iesus tooke the loaues, and when he had giuen thankes, hee distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set downe, and likewise of the fishes, as much as they would.

12When they were filled, he said vnto his disciples, Gather vp the fragments that remaine, that nothing be lost.

13Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelue baskets with the fragments of the fiue barley loaues, which remained ouer and aboue, vnto them that had eaten.

14Then those men, when they had seene the miracle that Iesus did, said, This is of a trueth that Prophet that should come into the world.

15 When Iesus therefore perceiued that they would come and take him by force, to make him a King, hee departed againe into a mountaine, himselfe alone.

16And when euen was now come, his disciples went downe vnto the sea,

17And entred into a ship, and went ouer the sea towards Capernaum: and it was now darke, and Iesus was not come to them.

18And the sea arose, by reason of a great winde that blew.

19So when they had rowed about fiue and twentie, or thirtie furlongs, they see Iesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh vnto the ship: and they were afraid.

20But he saith vnto them, It is I, be not afraid.

21Then they willingly receiued him into the ship, and immediatly the ship was at the land whither they went.

22 The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea, saw that there was none other boat there, saue that one whereinto his disciples were entred, and that Iesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone:

23Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias, nigh vnto the place where they did eate bread, after that the Lord had giuen thankes:

24When the people therefore saw that Iesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also tooke shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Iesus.

25And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they saide vnto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?

26Iesus answered them, and said, Uerely, verely I say vnto you, Ye seeke me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because yee did eate of the loaues, and were filled.

27Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth vnto euerlasting life, which the Sonne of man shall giue vnto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

28Then said they vnto him, What shall we doe, that we might worke the workes of God?

30They said therefore vnto him, What signe shewest thou then, that we may see, and beleeue thee? What doest thou worke?

31Our fathers did eate Manna in the desert, as it is written, He gaue them bread from heauen to eate.

32Then Iesus said vnto them, Uerely, verely I say vnto you, Moses gaue you not that bread from heauen, but my Father giueth you the true bread from heauen.

33For the bread of God is hee which commeth downe from heauen, and giueth life vnto the world.

34Then said they vnto him, Lord, euermore giue vs this bread.

35And Iesus said vnto them, I am the bread of life: hee that commeth to me, shall neuer hunger: and he that beleeueth on me, shall neuer thirst.

36But I said vnto you, that ye also haue seene me, and beleeue not.

37All that the Father giueth mee, shall come to mee; and him that commeth to me, I will in no wise cast out.

38For I came downe from heauen, not to doe mine owne will, but the will of him that sent me.

39And this is the Fathers wil which hath sent me, that of all which he hath giuen mee, I should lose nothing, but should raise it vp againe at the last day.

40And this is the will of him that sent me, that euery one which seeth the Sonne, and beleeueth on him, may haue euerlasting life: and I will raise him vp at the last day.

41The Iewes then murmured at him, because hee said, I am the bread which came downe from heauen.

42And they said, Is not this Iesus the sonne of Ioseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that hee sayth, I came downe from heauen?

43Iesus therefore answered, and said vnto them, Murmure not among your selues.

44No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me, draw him: and I will raise him vp at the last day.

45It is written in the Prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Euery man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, commeth vnto me,

46Not that any man hath seene the Father; saue hee which is of God, hee hath seene the Father.

47Uerely, verely I say vnto you, Hee that beleeueth on me, hath euerlasting life.

53Then Iesus sayd vnto them, Uerely, verely I say vnto you, Except yee eate the flesh of the sonne of man, and drinke his blood, yee haue no life in you.

54Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternall life, and I will raise him vp at the last day.

55For my flesh is meate indeed, and my blood is drinke indeed.

56He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

69And we beleeue and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Sonne of the liuing God.

70Iesus answered them, Haue not I chosen you twelue, and one of you is a deuill?

71He spake of Iudas Iscariot the sonne of Simon: for hee it was that should betray him, being one of the twelue.

 

1 After this, Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee (of Tiberias). 2 A large crowd followed him, because they saw the signs he was performing on the sick. 3 Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples. 4 The Jewish feast of Passover was near. 5 When Jesus raised his eyes and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, he said to Philip, "Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?" 6 He said this to test him, because he himself knew what he was going to do. 7 Philip answered him, "Two hundred days' wages worth of food would not be enough for each of them to have a little (bit)." 8 One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, said to him, 9 "There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?" 10 Jesus said, "Have the people recline." Now there was a great deal of grass in that place. So the men reclined, about five thousand in number. 11 Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed them to those who were reclining, and also as much of the fish as they wanted. 12 When they had had their fill, he said to his disciples, "Gather the fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted." 13 So they collected them, and filled twelve wicker baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves that had been more than they could eat. 14 When the people saw the sign he had done, they said, "This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world." 15 Since Jesus knew that they were going to come and carry him off to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain alone. 16 When it was evening, his disciples went down to the sea, 17 embarked in a boat, and went across the sea to Capernaum. It had already grown dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 18 The sea was stirred up because a strong wind was blowing. 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they began to be afraid. 20 But he said to them, "It is I. Do not be afraid." 21 They wanted to take him into the boat, but the boat immediately arrived at the shore to which they were heading. 22 The next day, the crowd that remained across the sea saw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not gone along with his disciples in the boat, but only his disciples had left. 23 Other boats came from Tiberias near the place where they had eaten the bread when the Lord gave thanks. 24 When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they themselves got into boats and came to Capernaum looking for Jesus. 25 And when they found him across the sea they said to him, "Rabbi, when did you get here?" 26 Jesus answered them and said, "Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him the Father, God, has set his seal." 28 So they said to him, "What can we do to accomplish the works of God?" 29 Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent." 30 So they said to him, "What sign can you do, that we may see and believe in you? What can you do? 31 Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, as it is written: 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'" 32 So Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." 34 So they said to him, "Sir, give us this bread always." 35 Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst. 36 But I told you that although you have seen (me), you do not believe. 37 Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me, 38 because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me. 39 And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it (on) the last day. 40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him (on) the last day." 41 The Jews murmured about him because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven," 42 and they said, "Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph? Do we not know his father and mother? Then how can he say, 'I have come down from heaven'?" 43 Jesus answered and said to them, "Stop murmuring among yourselves. 44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets: 'They shall all be taught by God.' Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me. 46 Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. 47 Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died; 50 this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world." 52 The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us (his) flesh to eat?" 53 Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever."59 These things he said while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum. 60 Then many of his disciples who were listening said, "This saying is hard; who can accept it?" 61 Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, "Does this shock you? 62 What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? 63 It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64 But there are some of you who do not believe." Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him. 65 And he said, "For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father." 66 As a result of this, many (of) his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him. 67 Jesus then said to the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave?" 68 Simon Peter answered him, "Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God." 70 Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose you twelve? Yet is not one of you a devil?" 71 He was referring to Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot; it was he who would betray him, one of the Twelve.  

v 1-21. Many events in the estimated six months from Mt. 4:12 to 14:12 took place after Jn. 5:47. The events in Jn. 6 took place about a year before Jesus was crucified.
Similar notes Matt. 14:13-23. It was about Passover time, Jn. 6:4. Jesus withdrew east privately with his disciples, which Lk. 9:10,11 says is near Bethsaida, and He was speaking of the kingdom of God. Mk. 6 adds that this was not only after John was beheaded, but after the disciples first tour of preaching. Mk. adds they sneaked away by boat, but people anticipated their move, even outrunning them. There was such an incessant crowd, they kept too busy to eat, and Jesus’ compassion was not just for the sicknesses He healed, but because they were like sheep without a shepherd. Evening caught them in this deserted place and Jn. 6:5-7 add that Jesus tested Philip by asking where they could buy food for the people. Philip was a native and protested that 200 denarius, or two hundred days wages would not buy enough food.  Also, there was no place to get supplies, so the disciples wanted Jesus to send the crowd away. Jn. 6:8 says it was Andrew who located the lad with 5 barley loaves and two small fish. It was a large grassy area so Jesus told the disciples to have them sit down. Mark says by hundreds and fifties and that Jesus looked to heaven when he blessed the food. There were 5000 men, so with women and children there were probably 10-20,000 total. Jesus commanded them to pick up the fragments that remained after everyone was filled, and there were 12 (bushel size) baskets full. This is the only miracle recorded in all four gospels, and it showed the disciples that in the future Jesus would provide spiritual food, but it was the disciples who would have to do the feeding. Jn. 6:14. Many people did not realize that “that prophet” was Messiah. This was the high point of Jesus’ popularity as the people, after seeing the miracle by “that prophet”, wanted to make Him king by force. People wanted a king who would give them Medicare-free healing; Welfare-free food; Military- defeat Rome. From this point on, Jesus said little to convince people He was Messiah, and spent more time instructing His disciples.
Jesus had the disciples get in a boat and cross over to the other side, about seven miles , while He sent the people away, then He went up into the mountain to pray alone.  One of the sudden storms of Galilee came upon the disciples and the boat was tossed by the waves. This is an example of being in trouble yet being in God’s will, 1 Cor. 16:9. Between 3 and 6 in the morning they had only gone three to three and one half miles against the west wind, and saw Jesus walking past on the water. They thought He was a ghost, but he told them not to fear, it was He. Peter wanted assurance, so he asked if it was Jesus to ask him to come on the water to him. When Jesus said “Come”, he started walking on the water, but taking his eyes off Jesus and looking at the fearful waves, he began to sink. At his call for help, Jesus reached out His hand and caught him, but rebuked him for the lack of faith that caused him to sink. When they got into the boat, the wind stopped,  and (Jn. 6:31 they were at land immediately). Mk. 6:51,52 adds their amazement at this miracle because they hadn’t considered the miracle of feeding 5000. This was because their hearts were hardened, but Mt. 14:33 adds they then worshiped Him as the Son of God, or Messiah.
v 22-25. The crowd was still on the east side and had seen the disciples leave in the only boat without Jesus. They couldn’t find Him, so when other boats came from Tiberias, they got in and crossed to Capernaum. When they saw Him their shallow question was, “How did you get here?”
v 26. The miracle on the water was for the benefit of the disciples, so Jesus didn’t answer, but rebuked them for their material motivation and lack of spiritual perception.
v 27. Necessary physical food does not last so they should seek spiritual food, eternal life that He could give them. This was authenticated by the Father, Mt. 3:16,17. 
v 28. The people thought they could please God by doing good works.
v 29. Reply, they could only please God by believing  in the One He sent, Rom. 6:23
v 30,31. The Jews seek a sign, Lk. 11:29, and feeding 5000 wasn’t big enough. They wanted to see manna like Moses gave to feed millions.
v 32-33. Their error:  1. The Father, not Moses gave the manna;  2. The Father is giving the true bread from heaven;  3. Jesus was the true bread from heaven  which God sent to give lasting life unto the world. 
v 34. Just as unperceptive as the woman at the well, they wanted it forever.
v 35.  (First of the I Ams) 1. “I am the Bread;  2. This Bread is a person, and gives life. Having come into that relationship with Christ, it is satisfying everlasting life.
v 36. These people had witnessed  Christ and His miracle, but didn’t believe.
v 37-40. In His election, the Father would enable them to believe if they wanted to, just as Jesus asked the impotent man in 5:6, “do you want to be healed?” These verses about the Father giving do not mean there are only certain ones who can be saved. The Father’s will is made clear in  v 40. “And this is the will of Him that sent me, that everyone who see the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life. Also the whosoever of Jn. 3:15,16; 4:13,14; 11:26; 12:46 etc. Those who believe also have the promise of resurrection.  v 39, lost none, 10:28,29.
v 41,42. The people did not know of the virgin birth and thought Him the son of Joseph. They refused to believe Him,His miracles, John, the Father, or Scripture.
v 43,44. Jesus doesn’t correct them but rebukes their murmuring. They and we are so steeped in sin we can’t be saved unless the Father draws us. This drawing is not limited to a few. Jesus said “I .... will draw all men to me “ 12:32.
v 45,46. this quote is from Isa. 54:13. This reinforces the previous thought, the Father through the Holy Spirit and the Word works within us to draw us to Christ.
v 47,48. A believer is characterized by continuing trust. Bread of life, see v. 35.
v 49,50. Manna met a temporary need, became loathed, Num. 21:5, people died. One who eats the bread that came from heaven will not die.
v 51. “Eating” the living Bread is a figure of speech meaning to believe on Christ. By believing His flesh was offered up for us on the cross, we can live forever.
v 52. They did not understand and wondered how He could give his flesh to eat.
v 53, 54. This is the fourth verily, verily (I tell you the truth). He added and drink my blood, and they knew to eat blood was forbidden. Again, it was not to literally drink His blood, and it was a year before He instituted the Lord’s Supper, so it can not be called a sacrament, as some religions do. It is accepting His shed blood as the atonement for our sins. This gives us eternal life, and because He arose, we are resurrected too.
v 55. As food and drink sustain us, accepting His flesh and blood give eternal life.
v 56.57. The Father remains in the Son, 14:10, the Spirit remains on Jesus, 1:14:10, believers remain in Jesus and He in them, 56 and 15:4. We are bound in a unity that is blessed and which we should not violate.
58,59. Jesus concluded the message in the synagogue at Capernaum by stating that people ate Moses bread and died, but Bread from heaven gave eternal life.

v 60,. Some still thought He meant eating His flesh, v 52, and couldn’t understand.
v 61-63.  Jesus knew without hearing that some disciples were murmuring and asked why they were offended. They would not have believed if He spoke of His ascension, but they would know He came from heaven when He did. If they believed on Him, the Spirit would give life and help understand.   (He who denies Trinity may lose his soul. He that tries to understand it may lose his wits. anon)
v 64. Jesus knew from the beginning of His ministry, if not from eternity, who of all the people believed and that Judas would betray him.
65. Jesus had already taught, v 44, that they could not believe unless they were enabled by the Father. This does not mean some are elected to be lost.
v 66. Eating His flesh etc. is somewhat like parables. It is not to make it easy to understand, but so that those who really want to, could ask and learn. Since they didn’t understand Jesus’ teaching, and He wasn’t mounting a rebellion against Rome, many of the general followers left.
v 67. The twelve were probably being influenced by those leaving, and He asked  if they would go away also.
v 68,69. Peter’s personal conviction as well as spokesman for the group was that there was no other place to go for the words of eternal life. They didn’t understand until after the resurrection, but they were sure He was the Messiah. Peter didn’t just figure it out, the Father enlightened him, Mt. 16:17.
v 70, 71. This is more definite than v 64, His knowledge of Judas’ betrayal, so Peter was not spokesman for all twelve as he thought. Judas was chosen to apostleship, not to salvation. He participated in the healing ministries when sent out, just as there are hypocrites and deceivers in religious circles today.
