Deuteronomy 23
1He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.
2A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.
3An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever:
4Because they met you not with bread and with water in the way, when ye came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired against thee Balaam the son of Beor of Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse thee.
5Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee.
6Thou shalt not seek their peace nor their prosperity all thy days for ever.
7Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he is thy brother: thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a stranger in his land.
8The children that are begotten of them shall enter into the congregation of the LORD in their third generation.
9When the host goeth forth against thine enemies, then keep thee from every wicked thing.
10If there be among you any man, that is not clean by reason of uncleanness that chanceth him by night, then shall he go abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp:
11But it shall be, when evening cometh on, he shall wash himself with water: and when the sun is down, he shall come into the camp again.
12Thou shalt have a place also without the camp, whither thou shalt go forth abroad:
13And thou shalt have a paddle upon thy weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee:
14For the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy: that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee.
15Thou shalt not deliver unto his master the servant which is escaped from his master unto thee:
16He shall dwell with thee, even among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of thy gates, where it liketh him best: thou shalt not oppress him.
17There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.
18Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these areabomination unto the LORD thy God.
19Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother; usury of money, usury of victuals, usury of any thing that is lent upon usury:
20Unto a stranger thou mayest lend upon usury; but unto thy brother thou shalt not lend upon usury: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all that thou settest thine hand to in the land whither thou goest to possess it.
21When thou shalt vow a vow unto the LORD thy God, thou shalt not slack to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee.
22But if thou shalt forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in thee.
23That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt keep and perform; evena freewill offering, according as thou hast vowed unto the LORD thy God, which thou hast promised with thy mouth.
24When thou comest into thy neighbour's vineyard, then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill at thine own pleasure; but thou shalt not put anyin thy vessel.
25When thou comest into the standing corn of thy neighbour, then thou mayest pluck the ears with thine hand; but thou shalt not move a sickle unto thy neighbour's standing corn.

1 "A man shall not marry his father's wife, nor shall he dishonor his father's bed.
2 "No one whose testicles have been crushed or whose penis has been cut off may be admitted into the community of the LORD.
3 No child of an incestuous union may be admitted into the community of the LORD, nor any descendant of his even to the tenth generation.
4 No Ammonite or Moabite may ever be admitted into the community of the LORD, nor any descendants of theirs even to the tenth generation,
5 because they would not succor you with food and water on your journey after you left Egypt, and because Moab hired Balaam, son of Beor, from Pethor in Aram Naharaim, to curse you;
6 though the LORD, your God, would not listen to Balaam and turned his curse into a blessing for you, because he loves you.
7 Never promote their peace and prosperity as long as you live.
8 But do not abhor the Edomite, since he is your brother, nor the Egyptian, since you were an alien in his country.
9 Children born to them may in the third generation be admitted into the community of the LORD.
10 "When you are in camp during an expedition against your enemies, you shall keep yourselves from everything offensive.
11 If one of you becomes unclean because of a nocturnal emission, he shall go outside the camp, and not return until,
12 toward evening, he has bathed in water; then, when the sun has set, he may come back into the camp.
13 Outside the camp you shall have a place set aside to be used as a latrine.
14 You shall also keep a trowel in your equipment and with it, when you go outside to ease nature, you shall first dig a hole and afterward cover up your excrement.
15 Since the LORD, your God, journeys along within your camp to defend you and to put your enemies at your mercy, your camp must be holy; otherwise, if he sees anything indecent in your midst, he will leave your company.
16 "You shall not hand over to his master a slave who has taken refuge from him with you.
17 Let him live with you wherever he chooses, in any one of your communities that pleases him. Do not molest him.
18 "There shall be no temple harlot among the Israelite women, nor a temple prostitute among the Israelite men.
19 You shall not offer a harlot's fee or a dog's price as any kind of votive offering in the house of the LORD, your God; both these things are an abomination to the LORD, your God.
20 "You shall not demand interest from your countrymen on a loan of money or of food or of anything else on which interest is usually demanded.
21 You may demand interest from a foreigner, but not from your countryman, so that the LORD, your God, may bless you in all your undertakings on the land you are to enter and occupy.
22 "When you make a vow to the LORD, your God, you shall not delay in fulfilling it; otherwise you will be held guilty, for the LORD, your God, is strict in requiring it of you.
23 Should you refrain from making a vow, you will not be held guilty.
24 But you must keep your solemn word and fulfill the votive offering you have freely promised to the LORD.
25 "When you go through your neighbor's vineyard, you may eat as many of his grapes as you wish, but do not put them in your basket.
26 When you go through your neighbor's grainfield, you may pluck some of the ears with your hand, but do not put a sickle to your neighbor's grain.
v 1. A man with imperfect private area could not enter the congregation.
v 2. An illegitimate one could not enter the congregation till the tenth generation.
v 3-6. An Ammonite or Moabite could not enter the congregation until the tenth generation because they hired Balaam against Israel and denied them food. Israel could not wish them peace or prosperity forever. This did not apply to Ruth, because the Jewish law followed the father, not the mother, and as wife of Boaz, Ruth was considered an Israelite. She had already declared Naomi’s God as her God.
v 7,8. They could not abhor an Edomite because they were “brothers” or Egyptian because they had lived in their land. Children of those could enter the congregation of Israel in the third generation.
V 9-20. These special rules regarding uncleanness and separation can best be taken at face value direct from Scripture. Unusual is the command that an escaped slave was not to be returned to his master, but be allowed to dwell in one of their towns without fear of oppression. Perhaps this reminded them of their oppression in Egypt. Harlotry and sodomy were renounced, and they could not lend at interest to fellow Jews, but could to non Jews.
v 21-23. It was alright not to vow, but if you vow you must keep it, Num. 30.
v 24,25. In passing through a neighbor’s field, it was alright to eat grapes and grain in passing, but not to carry out or take a sickle to the grain. This was practiced by Jesus and the disciples, Mt. 12:1.
