Leviticus 07

KING JAMES BIBLE

1 Likewise this is the law of the trespass offering: it is most holy.

2In the place where they kill the burnt offering shall they kill the trespass offering: and the blood thereof shall he sprinkle round about upon the altar.

3And he shall offer of it all the fat thereof; the rump, and the fat that covereth the inwards,

4And the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them, which is by the flanks, and the caul that is above the liver, with the kidneys, it shall he take away:

5And the priest shall burn them upon the altar for an offering made by fire unto the LORD: it is a trespass offering.

6Every male among the priests shall eat thereof: it shall be eaten in the holy place: it is most holy.

7As the sin offering is, so is the trespass offering: there is one law for them: the priest that maketh atonement therewith shall have it.

8And the priest that offereth any man's burnt offering, even the priest shall have to himself the skin of the burnt offering which he hath offered.

9And all the meat offering that is baken in the oven, and all that is dressed in the fryingpan, and in the pan, shall be the priest's that offereth it.

10And every meat offering, mingled with oil, and dry, shall all the sons of Aaron have, one as much as another.

11And this is the law of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which he shall offer unto the LORD.

12If he offer it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer with the sacrifice of thanksgiving unleavened cakes mingled with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil, and cakes mingled with oil, of fine flour, fried.

13Besides the cakes, he shall offer for his offering leavened bread with the sacrifice of thanksgiving of his peace offerings.

14And of it he shall offer one out of the whole oblation for an heave offering unto the LORD, and it shall be the priest's that sprinkleth the blood of the peace offerings.

15And the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving shall be eaten the same day that it is offered; he shall not leave any of it until the morning.

16But if the sacrifice of his offering be a vow, or a voluntary offering, it shall be eaten the same day that he offereth his sacrifice: and on the morrow also the remainder of it shall be eaten:

17But the remainder of the flesh of the sacrifice on the third day shall be burnt with fire.

18And if any of the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings be eaten at all on the third day, it shall not be accepted, neither shall it be imputed unto him that offereth it: it shall be an abomination, and the soul that eateth of it shall bear his iniquity.

19And the flesh that toucheth any unclean thing shall not be eaten; it shall be burnt with fire: and as for the flesh, all that be clean shall eat thereof.

20But the soul that eateth of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, that pertain unto the LORD, having his uncleanness upon him, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.

21Moreover the soul that shall touch any unclean thing, as the uncleanness of man, or any unclean beast, or any abominable unclean thing, and eat of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which pertain unto the LORD, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.

22 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

23Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Ye shall eat no manner of fat, of ox, or of sheep, or of goat.

24And the fat of the beast that dieth of itself, and the fat of that which is torn with beasts, may be used in any other use: but ye shall in no wise eat of it.

25For whosoever eateth the fat of the beast, of which men offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD, even the soul that eateth itshall be cut off from his people.

26Moreover ye shall eat no manner of blood, whether it be of fowl or of beast, in any of your dwellings.

27Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.

28 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

29Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, He that offereth the sacrifice of his peace offerings unto the LORD shall bring his oblation unto the LORD of the sacrifice of his peace offerings.

30His own hands shall bring the offerings of the LORD made by fire, the fat with the breast, it shall he bring, that the breast may be waved for a wave offering before the LORD.

31And the priest shall burn the fat upon the altar: but the breast shall be Aaron's and his sons'.

32And the right shoulder shall ye give unto the priest for an heave offering of the sacrifices of your peace offerings.

33He among the sons of Aaron, that offereth the blood of the peace offerings, and the fat, shall have the right shoulder for his part.

34For the wave breast and the heave shoulder have I taken of the children of Israel from off the sacrifices of their peace offerings, and have given them unto Aaron the priest and unto his sons by a statute for ever from among the children of Israel.

35This is the portion of the anointing of Aaron, and of the anointing of his sons, out of the offerings of the LORD made by fire, in the day when he presented them to minister unto the LORD in the priest's office;

36Which the LORD commanded to be given them of the children of Israel, in the day that he anointed them, by a statute for ever throughout their generations.

37This is the law of the burnt offering, of the meat offering, and of the sin offering, and of the trespass offering, and of the consecrations, and of the sacrifice of the peace offerings;

38Which the LORD commanded Moses in mount Sinai, in the day that he commanded the children of Israel to offer their oblations unto the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai.

12If hee offer it for a thankesgiuing, then he shall offer with the sacrifice of thankesgiuing vnleauened cakes mingled with oyle, and vnleauened wafers anointed with oile, and cakes mingled with oyle of fine flowre fried.

13Besides the cakes, hee shall offer for his offring leauened bread, with the sacrifice of thankesgiuing of his peace offerings.

15And the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thankesgiuing, shall be eaten the same day that it is offered: he shall not leaue any of it vntill the morning.

16But if the sacrifice of his offering be a vow, or a voluntary offering, it shall be eaten the same day that he offereth his sacrifice: and on the morrowe also the remainder of it shall be eaten.

17But the remainder of the flesh of the sacrifice on the third day shall bee burnt with fire.

18And if any of the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings be eaten at all on the third day, it shall not be accepted, neither shal it be imputed vnto him that offereth it: it shall be an abomination, and the soule that eateth of it, shall beare his iniquitie.

19And the flesh that toucheth any vncleane thing, shal not be eaten: it shal be burnt with fire, and as for the flesh, all that be cleane shall eate thereof.

20But the soule that eateth of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, that pertaine vnto the Lord, hauing his vncleanesse vpon him, euen that soule shall be cut off from his people.

21Moreouer, the soule that shall touch any vncleane thing, as the vncleannesse of man, or any vncleane beast, or any abominable vncleane thing, and eate of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings which pertaine vnto the Lord, euen that soule shall be cut off from his people.

22 And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,

23Speake vnto the children of Israel, saying, Ye shall eat no maner fat of oxe, or of sheepe, or of goat.

24And the fat of the beast that dieth of it selfe, and the fat of that which is torne with beasts, may be vsed in any other vse: but yee shall in no wise eate of it.

25For whosoeuer eateth the fat of the beast, of which men offer an offring made by fire vnto the Lord, euen the soule that eateth it, shall be cut off from his people.

26Moreouer ye shall eat no maner of blood, whether it bee of foule or of beast in any of your dwellings.

27Whatsoeuer soule it be that eateth any maner of blood, euen that soule shalbe cut off from his people.

28 And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,

29Speake vnto the children of Israel, saying, Hee that offereth the sacrifice of his peace offerings vnto the Lord, shall bring his oblation vnto the Lord, of the sacrifice of his peaceofferings.

30His owne hands shall bring the offerings of the Lord made by fire, the fat with the brest, it shall hee bring, that the brest may be waued for a waue offering before the Lord.

31And the Priest shall burne the fat vpon the Altar: but the brest shalbe Aarons and his sonnes.

32And the right shoulder shall ye giue vnto the Priest for an heaue offering of the sacrifices of your peace offerings.

33Hee among the sonnes of Aaron that offereth the blood of the peace offerings, and the fat, shall haue the right shoulder for his part.

34For the waue brest and the heaue shoulder haue I taken of the children of Israel, from off the sacrifices of their peace offerings, and haue giuen them vnto Aaron the Priest, and vnto his sonnes, by a statute for euer, from among the children of Israel.

35 This is the portion of the anointing of Aaron, and of the anointing of his sonnes, out of the offerings of the Lord made by fire, in the day when he presented them, to minister vnto the Lord in the Priests office:

36Which the Lord commanded to be giuen them of the children of Israel, in the day that hee anointed them, by a statute for euer, throughout their generations.

THE NEW AMERICAN BIBLE

1 "This is the ritual for guilt offerings, which are most sacred.

2 At the place where the holocausts are slaughtered, there also shall the guilt offering be slaughtered. Its blood shall be splashed on the sides of the altar.

3 All of its fat shall be taken from it and offered up: the fatty tail, the fatty membrane over the inner organs,

4 as well as the two kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the lobe of the liver, which must be severed above the kidneys.

5 All this the priest shall burn on the altar as an oblation to the LORD. This is the guilt offering.

6 All the males of the priestly line may partake of it; but it must be eaten in a sacred place, since it is most sacred.

7 "Because the sin offering and the guilt offering are alike, both having the same ritual, the guilt offering likewise belongs to the priest who makes atonement with it.

8 Similarly, the priest who offers a holocaust for someone may keep for himself the hide of the holocaust that he has offered.

9 Also, every cereal offering that is baked in an oven or deep-fried in a pot or fried on a griddle shall belong to the priest who offers it,

10 whereas all cereal offerings that are offered up dry or mixed with oil shall belong to all of Aaron's sons without distinction.

11 "This is the ritual for the peace offerings that are presented to the LORD.

12 When anyone makes a peace offering in thanksgiving, together with his thanksgiving sacrifice he shall offer unleavened cakes mixed with oil, unleavened wafers spread with oil, and cakes made of fine flour mixed with oil and well kneaded.

13 His offering shall also include loaves of leavened bread along with the victim of his peace offering for thanksgiving.

14 From each of his offerings he shall present one portion as a contribution to the LORD; this shall belong to the priest who splashes the blood of the peace offering.

15 "The flesh of the thanksgiving sacrifice shall be eaten on the day it is offered; none of it may be kept till the next day.

16 However, if the sacrifice is a votive or a free-will offering, it should indeed be eaten on the day the sacrifice is offered, but what is left over may be eaten on the next day.

17 Should any flesh from the sacrifice be left over on the third day, it must be burned up in the fire.

18 If, therefore, any of the flesh of the peace offering is eaten on the third day, it shall not win favor for him nor shall it be reckoned to his credit; rather, it shall be considered as refuse, and anyone who eats of it shall have his guilt to bear.

19 Should the flesh touch anything unclean, it may not be eaten, but shall be burned up in the fire. "All who are clean may partake of this flesh.

20 If, however, someone while in a state of uncleanness eats any of the flesh of a peace offering belonging to the LORD, that person shall be cut off from his people.

21 Likewise, if someone touches anything unclean, whether the uncleanness be of human or of animal origin or from some loathsome crawling creature, and then eats of a peace offering belonging to the LORD, that person, too, shall be cut off from his people."

22 The LORD said to Moses,

23 "Tell the Israelites: You shall not eat the fat of any ox or sheep or goat.

24 Although the fat of an animal that has died a natural death or has been killed by wild beasts may be put to any other use, you may not eat it.

25 If anyone eats the fat of an animal from which an oblation is made to the LORD, such a one shall be cut off from his people.

26 Wherever you dwell, you shall not partake of any blood, be it of bird or of animal.

27 Every person who partakes of any blood shall be cut off from his people."

28 The LORD said to Moses,

29 "Tell the Israelites: He who presents a peace offering to the LORD shall bring a part of it as his special offering to him,

30 carrying in with his own hands the oblations to the LORD. The fat is to be brought in, together with the breast, which is to be waved as a wave offering before the LORD.

31 The priest shall burn the fat on the altar, but the breast belongs to Aaron and his sons.

32 Moreover, from your peace offering you shall give to the priest the right leg as a raised offering.

33 The descendant of Aaron who offers up the blood and fat of the peace offering shall have the right leg as his portion,

34 for from the peace offerings of the Israelites I have taken the breast that is waved and the leg that is raised up, and I have given them to Aaron, the priest, and to his sons by a perpetual ordinance as a contribution from the Israelites."

35 This is the priestly share from the oblations of the LORD, allotted to Aaron and his sons on the day he called them to be the priests of the LORD;

36 on the day he anointed them the LORD ordered the Israelites to give them this share by a perpetual ordinance throughout their generations.

37 This is the ritual for holocausts, cereal offerings, sin offerings, guilt offerings, (ordination offerings) and peace offerings,

38 which the LORD enjoined on Moses at Mount Sinai at the time when he commanded the Israelites in the wilderness of Sinai to bring their offerings to the LORD.

COMMENTARIE

v 1-10. This section on trespass offering supplements Lev. 5:1 - 6:7. The place of offering, like that of the burnt offering, 1:11, was on the north side of the altar, and presumably all were offered there. The blood was dashed all around against the altar. The things burned on the altar, v 3-5 are the same as in the peace, or fellowship offering of chapter 3. Eating the flesh of it is like that of the sin offering, 6:26, 29. The primary purpose of the sin offering in chapter 6 and 7 is to show how sinners must give complete satisfaction to God for all their sins.

v 11-21. This section on peace offering supplements Lev. 3:1-17, and speaks of communion and fellowship. Three kinds of bread are offered. The cakes are mixed with oil, but the wafers are thinner and had it spread on them, while the bread was made with leaven. That is because the offerer is still a sinner in fellowship with a holy God. Today, Christ is our peace, Eph. 2:13-18. The two with yeast, v 12, were probably offered in portion, and the rest given to the priests, 2:9-12. The leavened bread in 7:13 was waved, not burned, and eaten in the communal meal on the day of the offering. Any left was to be destroyed by morning. Participants were the priests, the offerer and his family and poor who couldn’t afford it, Deut. 12:12, 18, 19.
However in the case of a vow or free will offering, v 16 it could be eaten the second day. Any of that sacrifice left over on the third day is to be burned or it would be an abomination and the violator might be punished by God. See also 19:6-8. Some have compared this to Christ’s death one day, in grave the next and risen on the third, but His resurrection was certainly not an abomination. It is interesting that all these sacrifices were to be without blemish, including this vow, but in Lev. 22:23, if it was a freewill offering, it could have a blemish, be “superfluous”.
Verses 19-21 indicate that both the offering and the offerer were to be clean. Any one ceremonially unclean as stated (detailed farther in chapters 11-15 and 22) and ate of the offering was to be cut off by death.

v 22-27. Here are strict prohibitions from eating the fat (excepting what would be in the muscle tissues), or be cut off by death. But they could use the fat for oil for light or other home uses. See additional rules on the flesh in 11:39-40 and 17:15. Anyone eating meat without the blood drained was also to be cut off by death.

v 28-34. These verses adds more details to verses 11-21. The offerer was to present the offering personally and the priests were to receive their portion. (We should offer the best of our lives to the Lord.) The priest was to burn the fat and wave the breast to the Lord and he was to heave the right thigh (KJV shoulder) of the peace offering before the Lord. The thigh would then go to the officiating priest, but the breast went to the whole body of priests and their families, Num. 18:11,12.

v 35,36. This summarizes the entire section from 6:8-7:34. The priests were to start receiving their portion from the day they were anointed to office.

v 37,38. These verses summarize all the book of Leviticus to this point, with the addition of the consecrations or ordination offering in 8:22-33 and Ex. 29: 22-34. The fulfillment of these will be in Lev. 9, which will show that everything is being done as the Lord commanded Moses when he was on Mount Sinai.
