Ezekiel 11

KING JAMES BIBLE KING JAMES 1611 VERSES TO VERSES THE NEW AMERICAN BIBLE COMMENTARIE

1 MOREOVER the spirit lifted me up, and brought me unto the east gate of the Lord’s house, which looketh eastward: and behold at the door of the gate five and twenty men; among whom I saw Jaazaniah the son of Azur, and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, princes of the people.
2 Then said he unto me, Son of man, these are the men that devise mischief, and give wicked counsel in this city:
3 Which say, It is not near; let us build houses: this city is the caldron, and we be the flesh.
4 Therefore prophesy against them, prophesy, O son of man.
5 And the Spirit of the Lord fell upon me, and said unto me, Speak; Thus saith the Lord; Thus have ye said, O house of Israel: for I know the things that come into your mind, every one of them.
6 Ye have multiplied your slain in this city, and ye have filled the streets thereof with the slain.
7 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Your slain whom ye have laid in the midst of it, they are the flesh, and this city is the caldron: but I will bring you forth out of the midst of it.
8 Ye have feared the sword; and I will bring a sword upon you, saith the Lord God.
9 And I will bring you out of the midst thereof, and deliver you into the hands of strangers, and will execute judgments among you.
10 Ye shall fall by the sword; I will judge you in the border of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
11 This city shall not be your caldron, neither shall ye be the flesh in the midst thereof; but I will judge you in the border of Israel:
12 And ye shall know that I am the Lord: for ye have not walked in my statutes, neither executed my judgments, but have done after the manners of the heathen that are round about you.
13 And it came to pass, when I prophesied, that Pelatiah the son of Benaiah died. Then fell I down upon my face, and cried with a loud voice, and said, Ah Lord God! wilt thou make a full end of the remnant of Israel?
14 Again the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
15 Son of man, thy brethren, even thy brethren, the men of thy kindred, and all the house of Israel wholly, are they unto whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, Get you far from the Lord: unto us is this land given in possession.
16 Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord God; Although I have cast them far off among the heathen, and although I have scattered them among the countries, yet will I be to them as a little sanctuary in the countries where they shall come.
17 Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord God; I will even gather you from the people, and assemble you out of the countries where ye have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.
18 And they shall come thither, and they shall take away all the detestable things thereof and all the abominations thereof from thence.
19 And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:
20 That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.
21 But as for them whose heart walketh after the heart of their detestable things and their abominations, I will recompense their way upon their own heads, saith the Lord God.
22 Then did the cherubims lift up their wings, and the wheels beside them; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.
23 And the glory of the Lord went up from the midst of the city, and stood upon the mountain which is on the east side of the city.
24 Afterwards the spirit took me up, and brought me in a vision by the Spirit of God into Chaldea, to them of the captivity. So the vision that I had seen went up from me.
25 Then I spake unto them of the captivity all the things that the Lord had shewed me.

1Moreouer the Spirit lift me vp, and brought me vnto the East gate of the Lords house, which looketh Eastward: and behold at the doore of the gate fiue and twenty men; among whom I saw Iaazaniah the sonne of Azur, and Pelatiah the sonne of Benaiah, Princes of the people.

2Then said he vnto me; Sonne of man, these are the men that deuise mischiefe, & giue wicked counsel in this city.

3Which say, It is not neere, let vs build houses: this citie is the caldron, and we be the flesh.

4 Therefore prophecie against them, prophecie, O sonne of man.

5And the Spirit of the Lord fell vpon me, and said vnto me, Speake, thus saith the Lord; Thus haue ye said, O house of Israel: for I know the things that come into your minde, euery one of them.

6Ye haue multiplyed your slaine in this citie, and yee haue filled the streetes thereof with the slaine.

7Therefore thus sayth the Lord God; Your slaine whom ye haue laid in the middest of it, they are the flesh, and this citie is the cauldron: but I wil bring you foorth out of the middest of it.

8Ye haue feared the sword, and I will bring a sword vpon you, saith the Lord God.

9And I will bring you out of the middest thereof, and deliuer you into the hands of strangers, and will execute iudgements among you.

10Yee shall fall by the sword, I will iudge you in the border of Israel, and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

11This citie shall not be your cauldron, neither shall ye be the flesh in the middest thereof, but I will iudge you in the border of Israel.

12And ye shall know that I am the Lord: for yee haue not walked in my statutes, neither executed my iudgements, but haue done after the maners of the heathen that are round about you.

13 And it came to passe, when I prophecied, that Pelatiah the sonne of Benaiah died: then fell I downe vpon my face, and cried with a loud voice, and said; Ah Lord God, wilt thou make a full end of the remnant of Israel?

14Againe the word of the Lord came vnto me, saying;

15Sonne of man, thy brethren, euen thy brethren, the men of thy kinred, and all the house of Israel wholly are they, vnto whom the inhabitants of Ierusalem haue sayd; Get yee farre from the Lord: vnto vs is this land giuen in possession.

16Therefore say, Thus sayth the Lord God; Although I haue cast them farre off among the heathen, and although I haue scattered them among the countreys, yet will I be to them as a little Sanctuarie in the countreys where they shall come.

17Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord God; I will euen gather you from the people, and assemble you out of the countreys where ye haue beene scattered, and I will giue you the land of Israel.

18And they shall come thither, and they shall take away all the detestable things thereof, and all the abominations thereof from thence.

19And I wil giue them one heart, and I wil put a new spirit within you: and I will take the stonie heart out of their flesh, and will giue them an heart of flesh,

20That they may walke in my statutes, and keepe mine ordinances, and doe them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

21But as for them whose heart walketh after the heart of their detestable things, and their abominations, I wil recompense their way vpon their owne heads, saith the Lord God.

22 Then did the Cherubims lift vp their wings, and the wheeles besides them, and the glory of the God of Israel was ouer them aboue.

23And the glory of the Lord went vp from the middest of the citie, and stood vpon the mountaine, which is on the East side of the citie.

24 Afterwards the spirit tooke me vp, and brought me in vision by the spirit of God into Caldea to them of the captiuity: so the vision that I had seene, went vp from me.

25Then I spake vnto them of the captiuity, all the things that the Lord had shewed me.

1 Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the east gate of the temple. At the entrance of the gate I saw twenty-five men, among whom were Jaazaniah, son of Azzur, and Pelatiah, son of Benaiah, princes of the people.

2 The LORD said to me: Son of man, these are the men who are planning evil and giving wicked counsel in this city.

3 "Shall we not," they say, "be building houses soon? The city is the kettle, and we are the meat."

4 Therefore prophesy against them, son of man, prophesy!

5 Then the spirit of the LORD fell upon me, and he told me to say: Thus says the LORD: This is the way you talk, house of Israel, and what you are plotting I well know.

6 You have slain many in this city and have filled its streets with your slain.

7 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Your slain whom you have placed within it, they are the meat, and the city is the kettle; but you I will take out of it.

8 You fear the sword, but the sword I will bring upon you, says the Lord GOD.

9 I will bring you out of the city, and hand you over to foreigners, and inflict punishments upon you.

10 By the sword you shall fall; at the boundaries of Israel I will judge you; thus you shall know that I am the LORD.

11 The city shall not be a kettle for you, nor shall you be the meat within it. At the boundaries of Israel I will judge you,

12 and you shall know that I am the LORD, by whose statutes you have not lived, and whose ordinances you have not kept; rather, you have acted according to the ordinances of the nations around you.

13 While I was prophesying, Pelatiah, the son of Benaiah, died. I fell prone and cried out in a loud voice: "Alas, Lord GOD! will you utterly wipe out what remains of Israel?"

14 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:

15 Son of man, it is about your kinsmen, your fellow exiles, and the whole house of Israel that the inhabitants of Jerusalem say, "They are far away from the LORD; to us the land of Israel has been given as our possession."

16 Therefore say: Thus says the Lord GOD: Though I have removed them far among the nations and scattered them over foreign countries - and was for a while their only sanctuary in the countries to which they had gone -

17 I will gather you from the nations and assemble you from the countries over which you have been scattered, and I will restore to you the land of Israel.

18 They shall return to it and remove from it all its detestable abominations.

19 I will give them a new heart and put a new spirit within them; I will remove the stony heart from their bodies, and replace it with a natural heart,

20 so that they will live according to my statutes, and observe and carry out my ordinances; thus they shall be my people and I will be their God.

21 But as for those whose hearts are devoted to their detestable abominations, I will bring down their conduct upon their heads, says the Lord GOD.

22 Then the cherubim lifted their wings, and the wheels went along with them, while up above them was the glory of the God of Israel.

23 And the glory of the LORD rose from the city and took a stand on the mountain which is to the east of the city.

NUMBERS NOT IN ORDER DUE TO TRANSLATION

v 1-12 These were not the same 25 men worshiping the sun in 8:16, but they sat in the gate as leaders of the city who were plotting and giving evil advice. They claimed the city was as safe as meat in a pot, v 3, but Ezekiel turned this to mean that the good men who died from their advice was the meat and the city was the pot, v 7, and people would be dragged away. Then they would realize God was the Lord.

v 13-21. Ezekiel feared Israel would be totally destroyed, but God assured him He would be with the a remnant in their exile, v 16, and they would be regathered, Idols removed and they will have a  new heart,

The glory of the Lord continued it’s departure and will not return until Christ returns to the Mount of Olives at the end of Tribulation. In vision Ezekiel was transported by the Spirit back to Babalonia, and he told the exiles all he had seen.
