AFTERWARD he brought me to the temple, and measured the posts, six cubits broad on the one side, and six cubits broad on the other side, which was the breadth of the tabernacle. |
1Afterward he brought me to the Temple, and measured the posts, six cubites broad on the one side, and sixe cubites broad on the other side, which was the bredth of the Tabernacle. 2And the bredth of the doore was tenne cubites, and the sides of the doore were fiue cubites on the one side, and fiue cubites on the other side, and he measured the length thereof fortie cubites, and the bredth twentie cubites. 3Then went he inward, and measured the post of the doore two cubites, and the doore sixe cubites, and the bredth of the doore seuen cubites. 4So he measured the length therof twentie cubites, and the bredth twentie cubites before the temple, and he said vnto me; This is the most holy place. 5After he measured the wall of the house sixe cubites, and the bredth of euerie side-chamber foure cubites round about the house on euery side. 6And the side-chambers were three, one ouer an other, and thirtie in order, and they entred into the wall which was of the house for the side chambers round about, that they might haue hold, but they had not hold in the wall of the house. 7And there was an enlarging and a winding about still vpward to the side-chambers, for the winding about of the house went still vpward round about the house: therefore the bredth of the house was still vpward, and so increased from the lowest chamber to the highest by the middest. 8I saw also the height of the house round about; the foundations of the side-chambers were a full reede of sixe great cubites. 9The thicknesse of the wall which was for the side chamber without, was fiue cubites, and that which was left, was the place of the side-chambers that were within. 10And betweene the chambers was the widenesse of twentie cubites round about the house on euery side. 11And the doores of the side-chambers were toward the place that was left, one doore toward the North, and an other doore toward the South, and the bredth of the place that was left, was fiue cubites round about. 12Now the building that was before the seperate place, at the end toward the West, was seuenty cubites broad, and the wall of the building was fiue cubites thicke round about, and the length thereof ninety cubites. 13So he measured the house, an hundreth cubites long, and the separate place and the building with the walles thereof, an hundreth cubites long. 14Also the bredth of the face of the house, and of the separate place toward the East, an hundreth cubites. 15And he measured the length of the building ouer against the separate place which was behind it, and the galleries thereof on the one side, and on the other side an hundreth cubites with the inner temple, and the porches of the court. 16The doore-posts and the narrow windows, and the galleries round about on their three stories, ouer against the doore sieled with wood round about, and from the ground vp to the windows, & the windows were couered. 17To that aboue the doore, euen vnto the inner house and without, and by all the wall round about within and without by measure. 18And it was made with Cherubims and Palme trees, so that a Palme tree was betweene a Cherub and a Cherub, and euery Cherub had two faces. 19So that the face of a man was toward the Palme-tree on the one side, and the face of a yong lyon toward the Palme-tree on the other side: it was made through all the house round about. 20From the ground vnto aboue the doore were Cherubims and Palme-trees made, & on the wall of the temple. 21The postes of the Temple were squared, and the face of the Sanctuary, the appearance of the one as the appearance of the other. 22The altar of wood was three cubits high, and the length thereof two cubits; and the corners thereof and the length thereof and the walles thereof were of wood: and hee said vnto mee; This is the Table that is before the Lord. 23And the Temple and the Sanctuarie had two doores. 24And the doores had two leaues a piece, two turning leaues, two leaues for the one doore, and two leaues for the other doore. 25And there were made on them, on the doores of the Temple, Cherubims and Palme-trees, like as were made vpon the walles, and there were thicke planckes vpon the face of the porch without. 26And there were narrow windowes and Palme-trees on the one side and on the other side, on the sides of the porch, and vpon the side chambers of the house, and thicke plankes. |

1 Then he brought me to the nave and measured the pilasters, which were six cubits thick on either side. 2 The width of the entrance was ten cubits, and the walls at either side of it measured five cubits each. He measured the length of the nave, which was found to be forty cubits, while its width was twenty. 3 Then he went in beyond and measured the pilasters flanking that entrance, which were two cubits; the width of the entrance was six cubits, and the walls at either side of it extended seven cubits each. 4 He measured the space beyond the nave, twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide, and said to me, "This is the holy of holies." 5 Then he measured the wall of the temple, which was six cubits thick; the side chambers, which extended all the way around the temple, had a width of four cubits. 6 There were thirty side chambers built one above the other in three stories, and there were offsets in the outside wall of the temple that enclosed the side chambers; these served as supports, so that there were no supports in the temple wall proper. 7 There was a broad circular passageway that led upward to the side chambers, for the temple was enclosed all the way around and all the way upward; therefore the temple had a broad way running upward so that one could pass from the lowest to the middle and the highest story. 8 About the temple was a raised pavement completely enclosing it - the foundations of the side chambers - a full rod of six cubits in extent. 9 The width of the outside wall which enclosed the side chambers was five cubits. Between the side chambers of the temple 10 and the chambers of the court was an open space twenty cubits wide going all around the temple. 11 The side chambers had entrances to the open space, one entrance on the north and another on the south. The width of the wall surrounding the open space was five cubits. 12 The building fronting the free area on the west side was seventy cubits front to back; the wall of the building was five cubits thick all around, and it measured ninety cubits from side to side. 13 He measured the temple, which was one hundred cubits long. The free area, together with the building and its walls, was a hundred cubits in length. 14 The facade of the temple, along with the free area, on the east side, was one hundred cubits wide. 15 He measured the building which lay the length of the free area and behind it, and together with its walls on both sides it was one hundred cubits. The inner nave and the outer vestibule 16 were paneled with precious wood all around, covered from the ground to the windows. There were splayed windows with trellises about them (facing the threshold). 17 As high as the lintel of the door, even into the interior part of the temple as well as outside, on every wall on every side in both the inner and outer rooms were carved 18 the figures of cherubim and palmtrees: a palmtree between every two cherubim. Each cherub had two faces: 19 a man's face looking at a palmtree on one side, and a lion's face looking at a palmtree on the other; thus they were figured on every side throughout the whole temple. 20 From the ground to the lintel of the door the cherubim and palmtrees were carved on the walls. 21 The way into the nave was a square doorframe. In front of the holy place was something that looked like 22 a wooden altar, three cubits in height, two cubits long, and two cubits wide. It had corners, and its base and sides were of wood. He said to me, "This is the table which is before the LORD." 23 The nave had a double door, and also the holy place had 24 a double door. Each door had two movable leaves; two leaves were on one doorjamb and two on the other. 25 Carved upon them (on the doors of the nave) were cherubim and palmtrees, like those carved on the walls. Before the vestibule outside was a wooden lattice. 26 There were splayed windows (and palmtrees) on both side walls of the vestibule, and the side chambers of the temple. . . . |
v 1-4. As Ezekiel entered, each gate became narrower, as though limiting access to God. As a priest he could go into the outer sanctuary but not into the most holy place. Only the angel went in to measure it, v 3.
v 5-11. Surrounding the temple were three levels of side rooms
v 12 mentions a separate building at the west end of the temple, but no where does it state what it is for.
v 13-20. Cherubim and palm trees were carved into the wood interior walls of the temple. The cherubim, different from those in Ezek. 1, had a face of a man facing one palm tree and face of a lion facing the other palm tree and so on.
v 21-26. The only piece of furniture was one altar, v 22, which was possibly a place for burning incense. There were double doors. The temple was 87.5 feet wide and 100 feet long. While I have paid little attention to measurements in these notes, it must be kept in mind, that each detail is important to God.
