1 THE word of the Lord also came unto me, saying, |
1The word of the Lord also came vnto me, saying; 2Sonne of man, thou dwellest in the middest of a rebellious house, which haue eyes to see, and see not: they haue eares to heare, and heare not: for they are a rebellious house. 3Therefore thou sonne of man, prepare thee stuffe for remoouing, and remooue by day in their sight, and thou shalt remoue from thy place to another place in their sight; it may be they will consider, though they bee a rebellious house. 4Then shalt thou bring foorth thy stuffe by day in their sight, as stuffe for remoouing: and thou shalt goe foorth at euen in their sight, as they that goe foorth into captiuitie. 5Digge thou through the wall in their sight, and cary out thereby. 6In their sight shalt thou beare it vpon thy shoulders, and cary it foorth in the twy light: thou shalt couer thy face, that thou see not the ground: for I haue set thee for a signe vnto the house of Israel. 7And I did so as I was commanded: I brought forth my stuffe by day, as stuffe for captiuity, and in the euen I digged through the wall with mine hand, I brought it foorth in the twy light, and I bare it vpon my shoulder in their sight. 8 And in the morning came the word of the Lord vnto me, saying, 9Sonne of man, hath not the house of Israel, the rebellious house, sayd vnto thee, What doest thou? 10Say thou vnto them; Thus saith the Lord God; This burden concerneth the Prince in Ierusalem, and all the house of Israel that are among them. 11Say, I am your signe: like as I haue done, so shall it be done vnto them: they shall remooue and goe into captiuitie. 12And the Prince that is among them, shall beare vpon his shoulder in the twylight, and shall goe forth: they shall digge through the wall to cary out thereby: he shall couer his face, that he see not the ground with his eyes. 13My net also will I spread vpon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I wil bring him to Babylon to the land of the Caldeans, yet shall hee not see it, though he shall die there. 14And I will scatter toward euery winde all that are about him to helpe him, and all his bands, and I wil draw out the sword after them. 15And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shal scatter them among the nations, and disperse them in the countreys. 16But I will leaue a few men of them from the sword, from the famine, and from the pestilence, that they may declare all their abominations among the heathen whither they come, and they shall know that I am the Lord. 17 Moreouer, the worde of the Lord came to me, saying; 18Sonne of man, eate thy bread with quaking, and drinke thy water with trembling and with carefulnesse, 19And say vnto the people of the land; Thus sayth the Lord God, of the inhabitants of Ierusalem, and of the land of Israel; They shall eat their bread with carefulnes, and drinke their water with astonishment, that her land may be desolate from all that is therein, because of the violence of them that dwell therein. 20And the cities that are inhabited, shall be laid waste, and the land shall be desolate, and yee shall know that I am the Lord. 21 And the word of the Lord came vnto me, saying; 22Sonne of man, what is that prouerbe, that ye haue in the land of Israel, saying; The dayes are prolonged, and euery vision faileth? 23Tell them therefore, Thus sayth the Lord God; I will make this prouerbe to cease, and they shall no more vse it as a prouerbe in Israel: but say vnto them, The dayes are at hand, and the effect of euery vision. 24For there shall bee no more any vaine vision, nor flattering diuination, within the house of Israel. 25For I am the Lord: I will speake, & the word that I shall speake, shall come to passe: it shall be no more prolonged: for in your dayes, O rebellious house, will I say the word, and will performe it, sayth the Lord God. 26 Againe the word of the Lord came to me, saying; 27Sonne of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say; The vision that he seeth is for many dayes to come, and he prophecieth of the times that are far off. 28Therefore say vnto them, Thus saith the Lord God, There shal none of my words be prolonged any more, but the worde which I haue spoken, shall be done, sayth the Lord God. |

1 Thus the word of the LORD came to me: 2 Son of man, you live in the midst of a rebellious house; they have eyes to see but do not see, and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious house. 3 Now, son of man, during the day while they are looking on, prepare your baggage as though for exile, and again while they are looking on, migrate from where you live to another place; perhaps they will see that they are a rebellious house. 4 You shall bring out your baggage like an exile in the daytime while they are looking on; in the evening, again while they are looking on, you shall go out like one of those driven into exile; 5 while they look on, dig a hole in the wall and pass through it; 6 while they look on, shoulder the burden and set out in the darkness; cover your face that you may not see the land, for I have made you a sign for the house of Israel. 7 I did as I was told. During the day I brought out my baggage as though it were that of an exile, and at evening I dug a hole through the wall with my hand and, while they looked on, set out in the darkness, shouldering my burden. 8 Then, in the morning, the word of the LORD came to me: 9 Son of man, did not the house of Israel, that rebellious house, ask you what you were doing? 10 Tell them: Thus says the Lord GOD: This oracle concerns Jerusalem and the whole house of Israel within it. 11 I am a sign for you: as I have done, so shall it be done to them; as captives they shall go into exile. 12 The prince who is among them shall shoulder his burden and set out in darkness, going through a hole that he has dug in the wall, and covering his face lest he be seen by anyone. 13 But I will spread my net over him, and he shall be taken in my snare. I will bring him to Babylon, into the land of the Chaldeans - but he shall not see it - and there he shall die. 14 All his retinue, his aides, and his troops I will scatter in every direction, and pursue them with the sword. 15 Then shall they know that I am the LORD, when I disperse them among the nations and scatter them over foreign lands. 16 Yet I will leave a few of them to escape the sword, famine and pestilence, so that they may tell of all their abominations among the nations to which they will come; thus they shall know that I am the LORD. 17 Thus the word of the LORD came to me: 18 Son of man, eat your bread trembling, and drink your water shaking with anxiety. 19 Then say to the people of the land: Thus says the Lord GOD of the inhabitants of Jerusalem (to the land of Israel): They shall eat their bread in anxiety and drink their water in horror, that their land may be emptied of the violence of all its inhabitants that now fills it. 20 Inhabited cities shall be in ruins, and the land shall be a waste; thus you shall know that I am the LORD. 21 Thus the word of the LORD came to me: 22 Son of man, what is this proverb that you have in the land of Israel: "The days drag on, and no vision ever comes to anything"? 23 Say to them therefore: Thus says the Lord GOD: I will put an end to this proverb; they shall never quote it again in Israel. Rather, say to them: The days are at hand, and also the fulfillment of every vision. 25 Whatever I speak is final, and it shall be done without further delay. In your days, rebellious house, whatever I speak I will bring about, says the Lord GOD. 24 There shall no longer be any false visions or deceitful divinations within the house of Israel, because it is I, the LORD, who will speak. 26 Thus the word of the LORD came to me: 27 Son of man, listen to the house of Israel saying, "The vision he sees is a long way off; he prophesies of the distant future!" 28 Say to them therefore: Thus says the Lord GOD: None of my words shall be delayed any longer; whatever I speak is final, and it shall be done, says the Lord GOD. |
1-6. Because the people would not listen or understand, God gives Ezekiel two more action signs. He was to pack his bags in daylight for deportation, as they had done six years earlier. Then at night he was to dig through the wall and carry out his bags as if being deported, his face covered as though seeing the land no more.
v 7-16. Ezekiel obeyed and next morning the Lord had him explain to the exiles that the inhabitants of Jerusalem would be taken captive. King Zedekiah would try to escape by night, but he would be captured, Jer. 39:5, but blinded, Jer. 52:1-11, and not see the land of exile. Too late the people would know God, but He would spare a remnant.
v 17-20 The second sign was trembling while he ate, to show people’s fear.
v 21-28. The people would no longer misjudge Ezekiel, and false prophets would cease. Second, Ezekiel’s prophecies would no longer be delayed as some thought.
