PSALMS 107 FIRTH BOOK - PSALMS 107-150 GOD THE SAVIOR OF THOSE IN DEISTRESS

KING JAMES BIBLE

1 O GIVE thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;
3 And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.
4 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.
5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
6 Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.
7 And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.
8 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
10 Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;
11 Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:
12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.
13 Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.
14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.
15 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
16 For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.
17 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.
18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.
19 Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.
20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
21 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.
23 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;
24 These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.
25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.
26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end.
28 Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
30 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
31 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
32 Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.
33 He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;
34 A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.
35 He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.
36 And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation;
37 And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.
38 He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.
39 Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.
40 He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.
41 Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him families like a flock.
42 The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.
43 Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.

KING JAMES 1611

1O giue thankes vnto the Lord, for hee is good: for his mercie endureth for euer.

2Let the redeemed of the Lord say so: whome he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemie:

3And gathered them out of the lands, from the East and from the West: from the North and from the South.

4They wandred in the wildernes, in a solitary way: they found no citie to dwell in.

5Hungry and thirstie: their soule fainted in them.

6Then they cryed vnto the Lord in their trouble: and he deliuered them out of their distresses.

7And hee led them forth by the right way: that they might goe to a citie of habitation.

8Oh that men would praise the Lord, for his goodnesse: and for his wonderfull workes to the children of men.

9For he satisfieth the longing soule: and filleth the hungry soule with goodnesse.

10Such as sit in darknesse and in the shadowe of death: being bound in affliction and yron:

11Because they rebelled against the words of God: and contemned the counsell of the most high:

12Therefore hee brought downe their heart with labour: they fel downe, and there was none to helpe.

13Then they cryed vnto the Lord in their trouble: and he saued them out of their distresses.

14Hee brought them out of darkenesse, and the shadowe of death: and brake their bands insunder.

15Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodnesse: and for his wonderfull workes to the children of men.

16For he hath broken the gates of brasse: and cut the barres of yron in sunder.

17Fooles, because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.

18Their soule abhorreth all manner of meate: and they drawe neere vnto the gates of death.

19Then they crie vnto the Lord in their trouble: he saueth them out of their distresses.

20Hee sent his word, and healed them: and deliuered them from their destructions.

21Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodnesse: and for his wonderfull workes, to the children of men.

22And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thankesgiuing: and declare his workes with reioycing.

23They that goe downe to the sea in shippes: that doe businesse in great waters:

24These see the workes of the Lord: and his wonders in the deepe.

25For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy winde: which lifteth vp the waues thereof.

26They mount vp to the heauen: they goe downe againe to the depthes: their soule is melted because of trouble.

27They reele to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man; and are at their wits end.

28Then they cry vnto the Lord in their trouble: and hee bringeth them out of their distresses.

29He maketh the storme a calme: so that the waues thereof are still.

30Then are they glad, because they be quiet: so he bringeth them vnto their desired hauen.

31Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodnesse; and for his wonderfull workes to the children of men:

32Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the Elders.

33Hee turneth riuers into a wildernesse: and the water springs into dry ground:

34A fruitfull land into barrennesse; for the wickednesse of them that dwell therein.

35He turneth the wildernesse into a standing water: and dry ground into water-springs.

36And there he maketh the hungry to dwell; that they may prepare a citie for habitation,

37And sowe the fields, and plant vineyards; which may yeeld fruits of increase.

38He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly: and suffreth not their cattell to decrease.

39Againe, they are minished and brought lowe through oppression, affliction and sorrow.

40Hee powreth contempt vpon princes: and causeth them to wander in the wildernesse, where there is no way.

41Yet setteth he the poore on high from affliction: and maketh him families like a flocke.

42The righteous shall see it, and reioyce; and all iniquitie shall stop her mouth.

43Who so is wise, and will obserue those things; euen they shall vnderstand the louing kindenesse of the Lord.

THE NEW AMERICAN BIBLE

1 “Give thanks to the LORD for he is good,his mercy endures forever!”

2 Let that be the prayer of the LORD’s redeemed, those redeemed from the hand of the foe,

3 Those gathered from foreign lands, from east and west, from north and south.

4 Some had lost their way in a barren desert; found no path toward a city to live in.

5 They were hungry and thirsty; their life was ebbing away.

6 In their distress they cried to the LORD, who rescued them in their peril,

7 Guided them by a direct path so they reached a city to live in.

8 Let them thank the LORD for his mercy, such wondrous deeds for the children of Adam.

9 For he satisfied the thirsty, filled the hungry with good things.

10 Some lived in darkness and gloom, imprisoned in misery and chains.

11 Because they rebelled against God’s word, and scorned the counsel of the Most High,

12 He humbled their hearts through hardship; they stumbled with no one to help.

13I n their distress they cried to the LORD, who saved them in their peril;

14 He brought them forth from darkness and the shadow of death and broke their chains asunder.

15 Let them thank the LORD for his mercy, such wondrous deeds for the children of Adam.

16 For he broke down the gates of bronze and snapped the bars of iron.

17 Some fell sick from their wicked ways, afflicted because of their sins.

18 They loathed all manner of food; they were at the gates of death.

19 In their distress they cried to the LORD, who saved them in their peril,

20 Sent forth his word to heal them, and snatched them from the grave.

21 Let them thank the LORD for his mercy, such wondrous deeds for the children of Adam.

22 Let them offer a sacrifice in thanks, recount his works with shouts of joy.

23 Some went off to sea in ships, plied their trade on the deep waters.

24 They saw the works of the LORD, the wonders of God in the deep.

25 He commanded and roused a storm wind; it tossed the waves on high.

26 They rose up to the heavens, sank to the depths; their hearts trembled at the danger.

27 They reeled, staggered like drunkards; their skill was of no avail.

28 In their distress they cried to the LORD, who brought them out of their peril;

29 He hushed the storm to silence, the waves of the sea were stilled.

30 They rejoiced that the sea grew calm, that God brought them to the harbor they longed for.

31 Let them thank the LORD for his mercy, such wondrous deeds for the children of Adam.

32 Let them extol him in the assembly of the people, and praise him in the council of the elders.

33 God changed rivers into desert, springs of water into thirsty ground,

34 Fruitful land into a salty waste, because of the wickedness of its people.

35 He changed the desert into pools of water, arid land into springs of water,

36 And settled the hungry there; they built a city to live in.

37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards, brought in an abundant harvest.

38 God blessed them, and they increased greatly, and their livestock did not decrease.

39 But he poured out contempt on princes, made them wander trackless wastes,

40 Where they were diminished and brought low through misery and cruel oppression.

41 While he released the poor man from affliction, and increased their families like flocks.

42 The upright saw this and rejoiced; all wickedness shut its mouth.

43 Whoever is wise will take note of these things, and ponder the merciful deeds of the LORD.
