Psalms 148 Praise the Lord !

KING JAMES BIBLE

PRAISE THE LORD!

1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the heights.

2Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts.

3Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light.

4Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens.

5Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created.

6He hath also stablished them for ever and ever: he hath made a decree which shall not pass.

7Praise the LORD from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps:

8Fire, and hail; snow, and vapour; stormy wind fulfilling his word:

9Mountains, and all hills; fruitful trees, and all cedars:

10Beasts, and all cattle; creeping things, and flying fowl:

11Kings of the earth, and all people; princes, and all judges of the earth:

12Both young men, and maidens; old men, and children:

13Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.

14He also exalteth the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. Praise ye the LORD.

THE NEW AMERICAN BIBLE

1 Hallelujah! Praise the LORD from the heavens; praise him in the heights.

2Praise him, all you his angels; give praise, all you his hosts.

3 Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all shining stars.

4 Praise him, highest heavens, you waters above the heavens.

5 Let them all praise the LORD’s name; for he commanded and they were created,

6 Assigned them their station forever, set an order that will never change.

7 Praise the LORD from the earth, you sea monsters and all the deeps of the sea;

8 Lightning and hail, snow and thick clouds, storm wind that fulfills his command;

9 Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars;

10 Animals wild and tame, creatures that crawl and birds that fly;

11 Kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all who govern on earth;

12 Young men and women too, old and young alike.

13Let them all praise the LORD’s name, for his name alone is exalted, His majesty above earth and heaven.

14 He has lifted high the horn of his people; to the praise of all his faithful, the Israelites, the people near to him. Hallelujah!

COMMENTARIE

v 1-6. The angels and all God’s creation above the earth should praise Him because He created them. Scientifically, notice stores of water above the heavens, v 4.

v 7-14 Earthly hosts of all His creation praise Him, again with mention of weather. This includes all people of every class, especially Israel and saints.
