Psalms 32 Confession and Forgiveness

KING JAMES BIBLE

1 BLESSED is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
2 Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
3 When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long.
4 For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.
5 I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
6 For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.
7 Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.
8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
9 Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.
10 Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him about.
11 Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.

1A Psalme of Dauid, Maschil. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiuen, whose sinne is couered.

2Blessed is the man vnto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquitie: and in whose spirit there is no guile.

3When I kept silence, my bones waxed old; through my roaring all the day long.

4For day and night thy hand was heauy vpon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.

6For this shall euery one that is godly pray vnto thee, in a time when thou mayest bee found: surely in the floods of great waters, they shall not come nigh vnto him.

7Thou art my hiding place, thou shalt preserue mee from trouble: thou shalt compasse me about with songs of deliuerance. Selah.

8I will instruct thee, and teach thee in the way which thou shalt goe: I will guide thee with mine eye.

9Be yee not as the horse, or as the mule which haue no vnderstanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, least they come neere vnto thee.

THE NEW AMERICAN BIBLE

1 Of David. A maskil. Blessed is the one whose fault is removed, whose sin is forgiven.

2 Blessed is the man to whom the LORD imputes no guilt, in whose spirit is no deceit.

3 Because I kept silent, my bones wasted away; I groaned all day long.

4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength withered as in dry summer heat.

5 Then I declared my sin to you; my guilt I did not hide. I said, “I confess my transgression to the LORD,” and you took away the guilt of my sin.

6 Therefore every loyal person should pray to you in time of distress. Though flood waters threaten, they will never reach him.

7 You are my shelter; you guard me from distress; with joyful shouts of deliverance you surround me.

8 I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk, give you counsel with my eye upon you.

9 Do not be like a horse or mule, without understanding; with bit and bridle their temper is curbed, else they will not come to you.

10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked one, but mercy surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD.

11 Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous; exult, all you upright of heart.

COMMENTARIE

This Psalm of David though not in that order, is possibly a follow up or companion to chapter 51, when he begs forgiveness for his sin with Bathsheba. He expresses the blessedness of forgiveness in 1, 2, and 7. Verses 3 and 4 express the chastening he went through during the year he refused to acknowledge his sin. Beginning with
