Psalms 147 GOD'S WORD RESTORES JERUSALEM

KING JAMES BIBLE

PR5AISING THE ALMIGHTY

1 Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.

2The LORD doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.

3He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.

4He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by theirnames.

5Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

6The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.

7Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God:

8Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.

9He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.

10He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.

11The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.

12Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion.

13For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; he hath blessed thy children within thee.

14He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.

15He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly.

16He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes.

17He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?

18He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.

19He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.

20He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.

8Who couereth the heauen with cloudes, who prepareth raine for the earth: who maketh grasse to growe vpon the mountaines.

9He giueth to the beast his foode: and to the yong rauens which crie.

10Hee delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.

THE NEW AMERICAN BIBLE

1 Hallelujah! How good to sing praise to our God; how pleasant to give fitting praise.

2 The LORD rebuilds Jerusalem, and gathers the dispersed of Israel,

3 Healing the brokenhearted, and binding up their wounds.

4 He numbers the stars, and gives to all of them their names.

5 Great is our Lord, vast in power, with wisdom beyond measure.

6 The LORD gives aid to the poor, but casts the wicked to the ground.

7 Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; with the lyre make music to our God,

8 Who covers the heavens with clouds, provides rain for the earth, makes grass sprout on the mountains,

9Who gives animals their food and young ravens what they cry for.

10 He takes no delight in the strength of horses, no pleasure in the runner’s stride.

11Rather the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, those who put their hope in his mercy.

12 Glorify the LORD, Jerusalem; Zion, offer praise to your God,

13 For he has strengthened the bars of your gates, blessed your children within you.

14He brings peace to your borders, and satisfies you with finest wheat.

15 He sends his command to earth; his word runs swiftly!

16 Thus he makes the snow like wool, and spreads the frost like ash;

17 He disperses hail like crumbs. Who can withstand his cold?

18 Yet when again he issues his command, it melts them; he raises his winds and the waters flow.

19 He proclaims his word to Jacob, his statutes and laws to Israel.

20 He has not done this for any other nation; of such laws they know nothing. Hallelujah!

COMMENTARIE

v 1-6 It is fitting to praise the Lord for building Jerusalem, healing the broken hearted, lifts up the meek and even numbers the stars and has them named.

v 7-11 God should be praised musically for His control of weather and for not taking pleasure in strength of man or beast, but in those who fear Him.

v 12-20 He should be praised for providing peace, food, and again control of weather. Best of all He has given his Word to Israel more than to any other nation.
